Bobby Dorta joined the staff in early 2022 as the director of player development and became the volunteer assistant coach starting with the 2023 season. HeĀ enters his third season with the program in 2024. He is responsible for implementing the Synergy video system, along with assisting the coaching staff with statistical analysis and player development goals.
Wofford returned to the 40-win plateau in 2023, going 40-19 on the season with a 12-9 SoCon clip. The Terriers also returned to the SoCon Championship for a second-straight year. Ryan Galanie was named SoCon Player of the Year, Wofford's third in a row, and he was joined on the All-SoCon First Team by Lucas Mahlstedt. Coulson Buchanan, Matthew Marchal, Cameron Gill and Dixon Black were honored on the second team. The All-Freshman Team featured Zac Cowan, Branton Little and Charlie Weber. Wofford'sĀ .314 batting average was second in the conference and 13th in the nation, and the Terriers topped the confernce in ERA with a 5.23 clip. With 2.38 walks allowed per nine innings, Wofford led the entirety of Division I baseball. The Terriers also topped the nation with 86 sacrifice bunts, a program record.Ā
Dorta's first season with the Terriers saw the squad reach new heights with a 42-16-1 overall record and a 16-4-1 Southern Conference clip. It was the first 40-win season in program history with the 42 victories a school record. The Terriers won the regular season SoCon Championship for a second consecutive season and reached the championship series of the SoCon Tournament for the third time ever before falling to UNCG. Five Terriers earned First-Team All-Southern Conference honors, including Matthew Marchal, Lawson Hill, John Dempsey, Ryan Galanie and Brennen Dorighi. Hill was tabbed Player of the Year by the media. Dalton Rhadans and Josh Vitus were selected to the Second Team, and the All-Freshman Team featured Carter Bailey, Coulson Buchanan and Marshall Toole. Wofford led the league in batting average (.314) and ERA (4.66) and set program records in strikeouts pitched (506), runs scored (485) and RBI (418).Ā
Dorta joined the TerriersĀ after a playing career with the Millersville baseball program that spanned from 2016-2021. He was slated to join the Maraudersā coaching staff before coming to Wofford.Ā Dorta logged 52 appearances and 88.1 innings as a reliever in his Millersville career. He also briefly served as the teamās starting second baseman during the 2018 season, and he hit .266 with a walk-off home run against Mansfield.Ā
Dorta was a part of five NCAA Tournament teams and helped the 2019 and 2021 teams to a PSAC East titles.Ā
Dorta graduated in 2021 from Millersville with a degree in emergency management. Dortaās father, Melvin, played professionally for the Washington Nationals.
