During his junior season, named a Staten Island Advance All-Star and earned All-State honors from the sportswriters while playing at Farrell High School ... Led the league in strikeouts with 70 and ranked in the top five in the conference in ERA and batting average ... As a sophomore, led the conference in strikeouts with 72 and had a .452 batting average ... Also played basketball, reaching the state final four.
