Chase Walter 2024 HS

Chase Walter

Chase Walter joined the Wofford staff in the fall of 2024 as director of player development.

In his first season with Wofford in 2025, Walter helped the Terriers to a 33-27 record for a seventh-straight campaign over 30 wins. The Terriers were 8-13 in the SoCon. The season featured a pair of ranked wins, a 12-5 triumph over No. 23 Kentucky and a 14-3 run-rule win in eight innings at No. 17 Troy. This marked the first time in program history that Wofford bested two different ranked foes in the same season. The Terriers led the SoCon in triples (17) and hit-by-pitch (113), ranking 28th and 22nd in the nation, respectively. The hit batsmen set a new program record. Wofford remained a strong small ball team, ranking second in the conference in both sacrifice bunts (45) and stolen bases (158). The steals were seventh nationally as the bunts ranked 12th. In the SoCon year-end balloting, a trio of Terriers were honored, highlighted by Carter Rasmussen being named Second-Team All-SoCon. Cullen Condon and Tanner Hardin were both honored on the SoCon All-Freshman Team.

Walter was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in the 32nd round in 2019 and signed as an undrafted free agent with the San Diego Padres in 2020. He spent four years in the minor leagues and ended his playing career in Auckland, New Zealand, in the Australian Baseball League.

He began his college career at Spartanburg Methodist, playing one season with the Pioneers. He then played three seasons at Western Carolina University and recorded 212 strikeouts in 195.1 innings on the mound. In 2019, he threw a team-high 93.0 innings and led the team with 114 strikeouts. Walter had a career-best 17 strikeouts in a complete-game win over Furman that season, earning SoCon Pitcher of the Week honors.

A native of Peachtree City, Georgia, Walter was a Rawlings-Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-American at McIntosh High School.
