Member of the 2024 Southern Conference Tournament championship team that earned the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament win in the Chapel Hill Regional.

2025: Played in 49 games with 47 starts before missing the very end of the season due to injury… Hit .369 with 58 hits, including 11 doubles, two triples, and one home run… Recorded 46 runs, 33 RBI, 26 walks, and 23 stolen bases… Ranked third in the Southern Conference for batting average and on-base percentage (.493) while finishing sixth in stolen bases… Recorded three hits, two RBI, and a steal in the season opener against Ohio (2/14) … Had two steals in the second game of the opening doubleheader (2/14) … Stole three bases against Le Moyne (2/28) … Added two hits and one RBI in the second game of the series (3/1) before posting two hits and five RBI in the finale (3/2) … Recorded two RBI at Elon (3/14) and notched a walk-off two-run double in the finale against Elon (3/16) … Had two hits and two RBI with a double in the upset win at No. 17 Troy (3/25) … Recorded three RBI on two hits and a walk at The Citadel (3/28) … Had three hits and three RBI against Winthrop (4/9) … Against USC Upstate (4/15), recorded two hits and two RBI with a pair of steals… Added two hits and two RBI with a triple and a steal at Western Carolina (4/17) … Had two RBI on two hits, including a double, against Queens (4/22) … Hit first-career home run at High Point (4/27) in game one of a doubleheader… Had two walks, a hit, an RBI, and a steal against Mercer (5/3)... Named to the SoCon Academic Honor Roll. 

2024: Played in 11 games off the bench with four at-bats… Recorded four runs and a hit by pitch… Scored first run against FDU (2/24) … Scored a pinch-runner against The Citadel (3/23) … Was hit with a pitch and scored at Charleston Southern (4/2) … Scored as a pinch-runner against Presbyterian (4/16) … Named to the SoCon Academic Honor Roll.

2023: Did not see action... Named to Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll.

HIGH SCHOOL: Layman was a three-sport athlete for May River High School... In addition to his infield duties on the diamond, he was a quarterback and wide receiver for the football team as well as a guard on the basketball team... In 2021, Layman hit .413 with 10 doubles and 24 runs while swiping 15 bags to earn all-region and second team all-state honors... With football, he posted eight catches for 168 yards and a touchdown to lift his squad to a region title... On the hardwood, Layman leads the team in scoring with 12.1 PPG while also contributing 4.1 RPG and 2.8 APG.

PERSONAL: Birthday is November 19... Son of Bill and Missy Layman... Majoring in international affairs... Mother played basketball at the College of Charleston, father played tennis at Western Carolina and brother, Matt, played football at Mars Hill and is now an offensive assistant at UMass.
