Az-Zahir Smith joined the staff in March of 2024 as defensive quality control. He works primarily with the inside linebackers and special teams.
He served as a defensive graduate assistant in 2023 at Shepherd University working with the defensive backs. The team was 9-3 overall and made an NCAA playoff appearance. During the spring of 2023 he worked with the tight ends at Ridge View High School.
Smith was part of the first recruiting class at Erskine College and primarily played tight end. He has added experience in game operations at Erskine, the College of Charleston and Conference Carolinas.
A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Smith earned a bachelor of science degree in sports management in 2022.
