T.J. Bell joined the staff in the summer of 2023 as the athletic performance coach for men’s and women’s basketball. Prior to joining the Terriers he was at the University of Georgia as an assistant athletic performance coach for baseball and cheerleading, while also assisting with other sports.
Bell spent the 2021-2022 season as a graduate strength and conditioning intern at University of Alabama-Birmingham working with men’s and women’s basketball. Prior to UAB, he was as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach at Carson-Newman University where he worked primarily with men’s and women’s basketball, swimming, and tennis and assisted football during the 2020-2021 season.
During his senior year he was an intern at both Mississippi State University and Jackson State University. He also served in the Mississippi Air National Guard for 10 years.
Bell earned a bachelor's of science degree in kinesiology-exercise science in 2020 from the Mississippi University for Women.. He added a Master’s of Business Administration degree in 2021 from Carson-Newman. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA), a Level 1 Olympic Weightlifting Coach (USAW), and is American Heart Association First Aid/CPR/AED certified.
