Wofford College head men’s golf coach Todd Eckstein announced the addition of Jacob Hicks as an assistant coach in August of 2025. Hicks joined the Terriers after a two-year stint in Raleigh with North Carolina State.
“I couldn’t be more excited to announce Jacob as our assistant coach,” said Eckstein. “He will add a combination of valuable golf knowledge and genuine care for our student-athletes that will make an immediate impact on our program.”
“My family and I are extremely excited and grateful to get down to Spartanburg,” said Hicks. “I am ready to get to work and come alongside coach Eckstein to serve and push our players to their fullest potential.”
With the Wolfpack, Hicks aided in the NC State men’s golf program claiming three team wins over his tenure, including a pair last season. The Wolfpack claimed six total top-five results in his two seasons and made an appearance in an NCAA Regional last season. Under Hicks, several members of the Wolfpack secured individual wins. He aided in Nick Matthews making an appearance in the 2024 NCAA Championship, and upon the season’s conclusion Matthews secured PING Honorable Mention All-America honors.
Hicks joined the Pack after five seasons as the Master’s University men’s golf head coach and three seasons at the helm of the women’s program. He was the first head coach in the history of the Mustangs women’s golf program and coached freshman Hannah Ulibarri to be the NAIA Women’s Golf Individual National Runner-Up in 2023. In the 2022-23 campaign, he led the men’s team to a runner-up finish at the 2023 NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship.
He earned Golden State Athletic Conference Men’s Golf Coach of the Year honors for three-straight seasons as he led his Mustang men’s squad to three consecutive GSAC championships. With Hicks’s guidance, Jack Dudeck recorded back-to-back individual titles in 2021 and 2022, and he was the national runner-up at the 2022 NAIA Championship. In his last season with the Mustangs, Hicks led freshman Easton Johnson to the 2023 NAIA men’s golf national championship as he took home NAIA Player of the Year, NAIA Freshman of the Year, and Jack Nicklaus Award honors.
Hicks was a four-year letterman at East Carolina under coach Press McPhaul, whom he reunited with during his stint in Raleigh. A two-time all-conference honoree in the American Athletic Conference, Hicks posted a 72.32 stroke average to lead the Pirates as a senior and earned All-America Scholar Team recognition from the Golf Coaches Association of America.
A native of Mebane, North Carolina, Hicks is married to his wife, Sarah. He graduated from ECU in 2016 with a degree in communication.
