Mac Thomalla joined the men's soccer staff as an assistant coach in March of 2025. Thomalla spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at Xavier University.
“I am excited to welcome Mac into our Terrier family along with his wife Riley,” said head coach Ryan Osborne. “Mac is a driven, devoted coach who will fit seamlessly into what we are trying to do here as a program moving forward. I have no doubt Mac will be a great addition to our program on and off the field.”
In his first season with the Terriers, Thomalla helped lead the team to a 6-11-2 record. The team picked up key road wins over Coastal Carolina, Longwood, and Winthrop. Wofford played Wake Forest, who was ranked the No. 1 team in the nation early in the season, to a 2-2 draw on the road. Four players were honored on All-Southern Conference teams, including a first team selection for Kalle Rahbek. Nathan Simes and Jakob Andersson were named to the second team while Samuel Byron was named to the all-freshman team. As a team, Wofford ranked top three in the SoCon in total points (90), total goals (30), total assists (30), shot accuracy (.450), and scoring offense (1.58).
Thomalla joined the Musketeers in July of 2023 as an assistant men's soccer coach. In his first season, the team was 9-4-6 overall with a 4-1-3 record in the Big East. They won the school’s first Big East Tournament on penalty kicks against #3 Georgetown to reach the NCAA Tournament. Dylan Kropp and Makel Rasheed earned All-Big East postseason honors.
In 2024, the team was 4-8-5 overall which included a win over #2 Marshall. Ernest Mensah Jr. was named to the All-Big East third team.
Thomalla was an assistant coach at McKendree from 2020-23, helping the Bearcats post a 19-16-12 (17-14-8 GLVC) record. Seven players earned All-GLVC honors during his time on the bench.
He served as the head coach of the St. Louis Scott Gallagher (Elite 04/05, IL) team from 2021-23. He also has club experience as an assistant coach for St. Louis Scott Gallagher (ECNL 06, IL) from 2022-23.
Thomalla played at McKendree from 2017-20, playing in 48 GLVC matches. He earned all-conference honors in 2019 and helped the Bearcats capture the 2019 GLVC Championship. The Bearcats advanced to the second round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament.
The native of Reading, England, holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from McKendree (‘21) and a master's degree in education from McKendree (‘23).
