Alex Martin is in her first year as a volunteer assistant coach with the Terriers, coming to Wofford in February 2016.
 
Martin played collegiately at the University of South Carolina, graduating in December 2015 with a degree in broadcast journalism. She served as her team’s Student Athletic Advisory Council representative in her three years playing for the Gamecocks. Sha was awarded the ITA Scholar Athlete Award while at USC as well as making the President’s and Dean’s Lists and the SEC Honor Roll.
 
Martin started her collegiate career at the University of Texas, where she helped her team to a 2012 Big 12 Conference Tournament championship and a Round of 16 finish in the NCAA Tournament. She also made the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll while at Texas.
 
Before college, Martin was a three-time South Carolina state champion in singles and doubles from 2008-10. She finished her high school career in the top 10 of her recruiting class. Martin played on the 2010 U.S. National Team representing the Southern region. She was also a finalist in doubles at the 2010 USTA National Open and a finalist in singles at the 2008 USTA National Open. 
 
Martin was active in the community while at USC, making the SEC Women’s Tennis Community Service Team her junior year. She served as a tennis instructor at tennis camps at USC, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and at the Nike Tennis Camps in Charleston, S.C. for two summers. She also served as an instructor for four years at the Family Circle Tennis Center in Daniel Island, S.C., teaching kids of all ages basic tennis skills and working to understand game concepts.
 
Outside of tennis, Martin has experience working in television production. She was an intern at Carolina News in Fall 2015 and also worked as a production assistant for Gamecock Productions/SEC Network Live while a student at USC.
 
A native of Mount Pleasant, S.C., Martin currently resides in Spartanburg.
