Allison Whitten

Wofford College head volleyball coach Lynze Roos has announced the addition of Allison Whitten to the Terrier coaching staff in July of 2023. Whitten will serve as an assistant coach in the 2023 season after recently graduating from Creighton University. Whitten is also set to begin her professional playing career in the winter with the Atlanta team of the new Pro Volleyball Federation.

“We are thrilled to have Allison join our staff,” said Roos. “Not only will her experience help our team, but having her intensity in the gym will also be an asset. We can’t wait to be cheerleaders of hers as she embarks on her professional career as well.”

In just one season in Spartanburg, Whitten aided in the Terriers making massive strides. The 2023 campaign saw Wofford win the Southern Conference Tournament on its own floor to secure the program's first-ever berth to the NCAA Tournament. Though falling to No. 2 Kentucky in the first round, the Terriers completed a historic season that saw 23 wins, the most in the program's Division I era, alongside a 15-3 home record, by far the best in Wofford's history. Two Terriers, Sarah Barham (first team) and Millie Loehr (second team) earned All-SoCon recognition. The team set program records for total blocks (295.5) and blocks per set (2.57) as both marks led the conference. Barham's 146 blocks topped her own single-season program record. She reached the 400 blocks milestone for a career as Loehr reached the 200 threshold. Emily Hodsdon recorded her 100th ace, and Abbey Richman tallied her 1,000th dig.

Whitten spent the 2022 season as a graduate senior with Creighton, aiding in the Blue Jays claiming the Big East Regular-Season and Tournament Championships. Whitten, a defensive specialist and libero, totaled double-digit digs in all but six of Creighton’s matches in the campaign. She served as the libero in each set in 2022 and recorded the 2,000th dig of her career on Sept. 18 in a match against Rice.

Prior to transferring to Creighton, Whitten spent four seasons playing for Morehead State. She highlighted her 2021 senior campaign with 577 total digs, a top-five single-season program mark for the Eagles and 18th most in the nation that season. She reached her 1,000th career dig in her junior season in the spring of 2021 against Murray State on Feb. 14. As a true freshman in 2018, she played in all 31 matches for Morehead State and became the first true freshman libero for the Eagles since 2006.

Whitten played in every match during her five-year indoor career between Morehead State and Creighton. She tallied over 500 digs in two seasons and recorded a total of 120 service aces in her career.

While at Morehead State, Whitten also played on the Eagles’ beach volleyball team for four seasons, being named First-Team All-OVC twice.

A native of the Palmetto State, Whitten is from Simpsonville, S.C. and attended Saint Joseph’s Catholic where she won six state titles. Whitten was an Under Armor Honorable Mention High School All-American and twice named South Carolina’s player of the year.

Whitten graduated from Morehead State in 2022 and added a Lifestyle Medicine graduate certificate from Creighton University in 2023. She returns to the Upstate to join the Terriers for the upcoming 2023 slate before beginning her professional career in the winter in the Pro Volleyball Federation, a new league that begins play in February of 2024. Whitten will play for the Atlanta Vibe.
