Jordan Lay enters his fourth season as associate head coach of the Wofford volleyball program. He was hired on May 16, 2016.

Lay serves as Wofford volleyball's recruiting coordinator and works primarily on the court with middles and right sides. He is also in charge of the team's video breakdown and scouting.

In April of 2018, Lay was selected as an AVCA Thirty Under 30 selection. This award was created in 2009 to honor up-and-coming coaching talent at all levels of the sport. To qualify for the award, nominees had to be younger than 30 years old in 2017. The 144 total nominations broke the program record.

"This is a great honor for Jordan and Wofford College," said head coach Lynze Roos. "He's been a positive asset for us since arriving on our campus. He has a passion for the game, and he brings that intensity and purpose into our training and competition."

In 2017, Lay helped guide the Terriers, who entered the season having never advanced out of the quarterfinals, to the Southern Conference championship. The team finished the season with a 22-11 record, Wofford's most win in the Division I era, and a 10-6 conference record, also a best in Wofford's DI era. Lay, 29, also saw outside hitter Catie Cronister named Co-Player of the Year, while Colleen Reilly joined her on the First-Team for the second straight year and Riley Coonan was honored as an All-Freshman selection.

In 2016, Lay's first season on staff, Wofford finished 17-15 overall and 9-7 in SoCon play, giving the Terriers a winning record for the first time since 2012 and a winning record in SoCon play for the first time in program history. Lay helped coach Cronister to SoCon Freshman of the Year honors, Wofford's first ever. Colleen Reilly was named Wofford's first First-Team selection, while Cronister followed with Second-Team honors and Kara Shacklette was an All-Freshman team selection.

He previously served as head coach at NCAA Div. II West Alabama from 2013-15. Lay instilled passion, unity and pride in a West Alabama program that went 3-13 in Gulf South Conference play the year before he took over. He coached the Tigers to five conference victories in 2013, seven in 2014 and a respectable 9-11 mark this past season. The team’s nine conference wins marked its most since 2011.

“Adding Jordan as associate head coach is a turning point for Terrier volleyball,” Roos stated. “He brings a new level of enthusiasm and experience. From the first time I coached against Jordan, his passion was obvious and his knowledge was impressive. He works hard to inspire and motivate his players, and I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to work side-by-side as Wofford volleyball keeps improving.”

Prior to West Alabama, Lay was the head coach for one season at NCAA Div. III Belhaven University. In that one year, he was named 2012 Southern State Athletic Conference Coach of the Year after guiding the Blazers to a 27-9 regular season record and 9-5 mark in conference play. Combined with a pair of wins in the SSAC Tournament, Lay’s team set the Belhaven record for victories in a season with 29. Lay was also with the program in 2011 as an assistant coach.

Additionally, Lay served as an assistant coach with Team Indiana Volleyball Club and at Park Tudor High School in Indianapolis before relocating to Belhaven. He was also the head coach of the Butler University women’s volleyball club team that won the Vanderbilt Invitational in 2010.

A native of Indianapolis, Ind., Lay earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing from Butler in 2011. He resides in Spartanburg.
