Biography

Has gained strength since the end of his freshman campaign . . . Put on 10 pounds while working diligently in the weight room during the off-season . . . 2005-06: Posted a solid freshman season, appearing in 27 of 29 games and collecting 240 minutes, the second-most among Terrier newcomers . . . Was three-for-three from the floor and notched eight points in a win over King College on Jan. 2 . . . His longest stint was 24 minutes against Toccoa Falls on Nov. 21 . . . Scoring high of 10 also against Toccoa Falls . . . Notched eight points in a win over King College on Jan. 2 . . . Went four-for-four from the line in a win at The Citadel on Jan. 16. High School: Had his high school jersey retired in a ceremony at Apalachee High on Jan. 6, 2006 . . . Led Apalachee High School to the Class AA Final Four in 2003 and 2004 . . . The Wildcats moved to the Class AAA level his senior year . . . A 3-A honorable-mention All-State selection as a senior, Whatley averaged 22.1 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.5 blocks and 2.0 assists per game . . . Shot 58 percent from the field, including a 44.0 mark from 3-point range, in leading Apalachee to the first round of the Class AAA state playoffs . . . Was a McDonald’s All-America nominee . . . First-team All-State his junior year when he received Player of the Year honors for Region 8-AA and Northeast Georgia . . . He was an honorable-mention All-State pick as a sophomore . . . Named to the first-team Banner-Herald All-Northeast Georgia team the past two years and was an honorable-mention pick as a sophomore . . . A Scholar-Athlete, Whatley was selected to and participated in the 2004 Nike All-America Camp in Indianapolis as well as the Georgia North-South All-Star Game in Savannah last month . . .
