Scott Kull was named the Robert D. Atkins ‘65 Director of Athletics at Wofford College in April 2024. Since arriving in Spartanburg, Kull has emphasized student-athlete success, financial sustainability, strategic growth, and the preservation of Wofford’s distinctive liberal arts mission.

Under Kull’s leadership, the department has enhanced its focus on the student-athlete experience, strengthened its commitment to academic excellence, expanded donor engagement, and positioned itself to navigate the evolving landscape of Name, Image and Likeness (NIL), revenue sharing, and the NCAA House settlement. During his tenure, Wofford student-athletes have continued to excel academically, maintaining one of the highest Graduation Success Rates in the Southern Conference while winning conference championships in volleyball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and baseball.
A key priority of Kull’s administration has been building a sustainable financial future for Wofford athletics. Through strategic fundraising initiatives and donor engagement, the Terrier Club has achieved record levels of philanthropic support, including consecutive years of significant growth in annual giving. He has championed a long-term vision to substantially increase athletics endowment support, including efforts to endow head coaching positions and create permanent resources that will benefit future generations of Terriers.
Kull has also overseen several transformative facility projects, including the development of the Robby Atkins Performance Center at the Joe E. Taylor Center, providing a recovery and refueling area for all student-athletes. A new weight room was installed at the Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium, while an indoor facility for baseball and softball is in development at Benjamin Johnson Arena. He is also leading the efforts for future enhancements to athletic facilities across campus.
To strengthen communication and transparency, Kull launched the “From the AD’s Desk” newsletter and podcast, providing alumni, donors, fans, and campus constituents with regular updates on departmental priorities, strategic initiatives, student-athlete achievements, and the changing collegiate athletics environment. Through these communications, he has become a leading voice on issues impacting higher education and Division I athletics, emphasizing Wofford’s commitment to remaining competitive while staying true to its institutional values.
A proven fundraiser and administrator, Kull brings more than three decades of experience in intercollegiate athletics to Wofford. His expertise spans strategic planning, athletics development, student-athlete wellbeing, revenue generation, marketing and communications, facilities management, media rights, licensing, corporate partnerships, and executive leadership. In 2019, Sports Business Journal recognized him as one of college athletics’ “Power Players.”
Prior to Wofford, Kull served as Deputy Athletics Director for External Affairs and Executive Director of the Athletics Foundation at the University of North Carolina Charlotte. He previously held senior leadership positions at the University of Utah, the University of South Florida, Florida State University, Texas Christian University, and The Ohio State University.
At the University of Utah, Kull served as Deputy Athletics Director for External Affairs, helping secure the largest gift in athletics department history while overseeing record fundraising efforts and more than $55 million in facility-related philanthropy. At South Florida, where he also served as Acting Athletics Director, he led initiatives that secured more than $53 million in future athletics revenue and significantly increased fundraising performance. During his 11-year tenure at TCU, he was part of the executive leadership team that helped raise more than $260 million for transformational athletics capital projects, including football stadium and basketball arena renovations.
A 1990 graduate of Otterbein College, where he played football and threw the javelin, Kull earned a bachelor’s degree in Business and Organizational Communications. He received a Master of Arts degree in Sport Management from The Ohio State University in 1992.
Raised in Old Town, Maine, and Claremont, N.H., Kull enjoys cycling, scuba diving, and travel. Throughout his career, Kull has remained committed to developing student-athletes, fostering meaningful relationships with alumni and supporters, and advancing the educational mission of intercollegiate athletics.
