GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Wofford held UNC Greensboro scoreless through regulation but a goal in the early stages of overtime gave the host Spartans a 1-0 victory against the Terriers Tuesday night in Southern Conference men's soccer action at UNCG Soccer Stadium in Greensboro, N.C.
Wofford (4-8, 0-3 SoCon) played its first one-goal game against UNCG since a 2-1 defeat Oct. 15, 1997, in Spartanburg, S.C. Both teams were in their first season of Southern Conference action during the match 11 years ago.
Tuesday's game was played evenly with UNC Greensboro (4-7-1, 1-2 SoCon). The host Spartans held a slim 12-9 shot edge but the one that counted came at 91:15 off the left foot of Tebatso Manyama. Manyama picked up a loose ball on the 18-yard box and dribbled between two defenders and towards the Terrier net before placing the ball inside the top left for the game winner past goalkeeper
Joey Taylor.
Taylor finished with four saves, while Nate Berry collected three in the shutout for UNCG.
Sophomore
Armin Kinigadner paced Wofford with four shots, including one on goal. Manyama led the Spartans with three attempts, including the goal.
The Terriers will return to action as they kick off a four-match homestand one week from tonight, Oct. 14, against regional power Clemson at Snyder Field. The contest is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
