Men's Soccer to face No. 1 UNC Greensboro in First Round of SoCon Tournament

2011 SoCon Men's Soccer Tournament Notes

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The first round of the 2011 Southern Conference Men's Soccer Championship begins Saturday evening as the eighth-seeded Wofford Terriers take on the tournament's top seed, UNC Greensboro at 7:00 p.m. in Greensboro, N.C.

The Terriers completed the 2011 regular season this past Monday evening, falling to Clemson by a 1-0 score to finish 5-12-1 overall.  Wofford posted a 1-6 record in SoCon play and was led offensively by junior Alex Hutchins, who scored six goals and recorded one assist throughout the season.

UNC Greensboro finished the regular season with an overall record of 8-7-2 and 5-1-1 in SoCon play to claim the SoCon regular season championship.  The Spartans are led offensively by Hakan Ilhan, who has scored nine goals and recorded three assists throughout the season.

The two squads met in the regular season on October 15th at Snyder Field, where UNCG took a 4-0 win.  Wofford's all-time record against the Spartans currently stands at  1-17-1.

The opening round of the 2011 Southern Conference Men's Soccer Championship takes place over the weekend, with the four first-round matchups taking place at the higher seeds home sites.  The semifinals and finals will take place at the ASU Soccer Stadium at the Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex in Boone, N.C. on November 11-13.  For more coverage, please visit www.soconsports.com
