Wofford Wraps Up East Bay Deli Invitational with 3-0 Sweep of Stetson

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford volleyball team extended its winning streak to five matches with its first sweep of the season, 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-16) against Stetson in the final match of the East Bay Deli Invitational Saturday evening.
 
Wofford (8-3) has now won eight of its last night matches.

In the first set, Wofford took the early lead 9-6 and pushed the lead out to 15-9.  Stetson cut the lead to 18-16, but the Terriers held on for the 25-21.
 
Stetson broke a tie at eight in the second set with a 7-2 run to take a 15-11 lead.  Wofford battled back to force a tie at 16.  The Terriers continued the run as they went ahead 20-18, only to see the Hatters tie the set at 20.  Wofford ended the set with a 5-2 run to earn the 25-22 win.
 
Neither team could pull ahead early in the third set until Wofford broke a tie at 14 with a 11-4 run to earn its first sweet of the season as they took the fifth set 25-18.
 
Wofford held a .265 hitting percentage while limiting Stetson to just .197.
 
Amanda Liguori led Wofford with nine kills, while Taylor Baird and Rachel Woodlee added seven kills each.  Bekah Dorsey handed out 22 assists, while Liguori and Styles each collected ten digs.  Arden Anderson had three total blocks, one solo and two block assists.
 
Stetson was led by Kelli Carneal, who had 12 kills and a .455 hitting percentage.  She also had 11 assists to earn a double-double.  Cailyn Prewitt added 11 kills and 11 digs.
 
Styles earned the tournament's Most Valuable Player, while Anderson and Bekah Dorsey made the all-tournament team.

Wofford will return to action in the team’s Southern Conference and home opener against Georgia Southern on September 21 at 6 p.m. in the Benjamin Johnson Arena.
