Smith and Klika Earn SoCon Player of the Week Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced its weekly volleyball awards today, and Wofford's Chloe Smith and Laney Klika were named the offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively. The selections are made by the league office.

It's the eighth time in program history Wofford has had two players selected in the same week, with the last time on September 14 this season. Smith picks up her third honor of the year and the fourth of her career. Klika earns her fifth selection of the season – the most by a Terrier in a single season in program history. Wofford has tied a program record of eight players of the week this season (2023).

Laney Klika, a senior libero out of Novelty, Ohio, led the conference with 5.60 digs per set across a 3-0 week. She was the only player in the conference to average at least five digs per set. She started the week with 21 digs and seven assists in a straight-set sweep against Western Carolina. Klika followed that up with 12 digs in a sweep over Samford. In the final match of the week, Klika had 23 digs and five assists in a 3-1 win against Samford.

Klika currently ranks second in the nation and first in the SoCon with 391 total digs this season. Her rate of 5.43 digs per set is ranked fourth in the country and first in the SoCon. She is second all-time in program history for career digs with 1,753 (Jessica Graham, 1,921).

A junior outside hitter out of Louisville, Kentucky, Chloe Smith was second in the conference with 5.00 kills per set for the week. Smith hit .353, making her the only player in the conference to average at least five kills per set and hit over .350. She started the week with 17 kills on a .385 hitting percentage in a sweep against Western Carolina. She followed that up with 15 kills on a .519 hitting percentage in a win over Samford. In a 3-1 victory over the Bulldogs, Smith went for 18 kills and nine digs.

Smith ranks 11th in the nation and second in the conference with 322.5 points on the season. She is 14th in the country with 277 kills, reaching double-digit kill totals in 13-straight matches.

Wofford is 14-5 on the season with a SoCon-best 7-0 record in conference play. That is the best start to conference play in program history. The team has won eight matches in a row and will look to make it 10 with a pair of road matches at ETSU this weekend.
