SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced its weekly volleyball awards today, and Wofford's
Laney Klika was selected as the defensive player of the week. The selections are made by the league office.
Â
Klika earns her fourth SoCon Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season and the seventh of her career. The award marks the team's sixth selection of the season, with four of those from Klika along with two offensive honors from
Chloe Smith. This is the second-straight season Wofford has had at least six players of the week.
Â
Klika, a senior libero out of Novelty, Ohio, led the conference with 5.83 digs per set as the team went 2-0 last week. Klika started the weekend with 16 digs and five assists in a 3-0 sweep against UNCG. She followed that up with 19 more digs in another straight-set sweep against the Spartans. Klika and company held the nation's leader in kills, Allie Sweet, to her second-lowest kill total of the season (11) in Friday's win.
Â
For the season, Klika ranks fourth in the nation and first in the conference with 5.40 digs per set. Her total of 335 digs places her third in the country and first in the conference. She is second all-time in program history with 1,697 career digs.
Â
Wofford has won five matches in a row, posting an 11-5 record with a perfect 4-0 mark in conference play. The Terriers will host Western Carolina on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. before a trip to Samford this weekend.
