CHATTANOOGA, TENN. – The Wofford College volleyball team defeated Chattanooga 3-1 in the Southern Conference opener on Friday night at Maclellan Gym. The Terriers lost the first set but bounced back with three-straight wins to claim the victory. Wofford improves to 8-5 on the season with a 1-0 record in conference play.

Chloe Smith led the team with 17 kills and 15 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. Smith has now posted 15 or more kills in six-straight matches. Avery White followed behind with a career-high 14 kills on a .429 hitting percentage. Bradley Brown had 11 kills on a .360 percentage. Setting up the offense was Maddy Frazier with a team-high 25 assists along with 18 from Taylor Pecht. Frazier, Smith and Ella Coleman totaled two aces each.
 
Laney Klika led the team with 19 digs as five Terriers recorded double-digit digs. Klika moves to second all-time in program history with 1,648 career digs. Maddy Frazier added 17 for her third double-double of the year while Ella Coleman had 15. Chloe Smith had 15 as well. Taylor Pecht closed the night with 12 as the senior setter notched her fifth double-double of the year. Bradley Brown led the blocking efforts with three – one of which was solo. Ella Coleman and Avery White had two blocks each.
 
Wofford ended the match with 74 kills on a .240 hitting percentage while Chattanooga had 59 kills on a .191 percentage. The Terriers totaled eight aces compared to seven from the Mocs. Both teams finished with six blocks apiece.
 
Chattanooga jumped out to an 8-3 lead to start set one. Wofford responded, however, cutting the deficit to one point, 11-10, later in the set. The Mocs were able to push the lead back out to three points, but Wofford once again cut the lead down to 17-16. Four-straight points from Chattanooga put Wofford away, with the Mocs claiming set one 25-20.
 
It was back-and-forth to start set two as the two teams were knotted up at 5-5. Wofford scored three unanswered points to take the lead, but Chattanooga rattled off six unanswered points to put the Mocs ahead 15-11. With Wofford trailing 19-16, the team had its own 9-2 run to close the set and give Wofford a 25-21 win in set two. A pair of kills from Chloe Smith along with a service ace from Maddy Frazier highlighted the run.
 
Chattanooga claimed an early 6-3 lead in set three. The Mocs were able to hold onto that lead until Wofford scored three-straights points to take a 12-11 advantage halfway through the stanza. The two teams traded points after that, with Wofford eventually going up 19-17. Chattanooga responded, however, taking a 24-23 lead with set point. A kill by Emily Normand started a 3-0 run to give Wofford a 26-24 win in set three, however. Chloe Smith closed the stanza with back-to-back kills.
 
Chattanooga scored the first point of set four, but it was all Wofford from there as the team rolled off 10-straight points. Despite Chattanooga cutting the lead to six points, 11-5, Wofford responded with four unanswered points to push the lead back out 15-5. The Terriers went on to earn a dominant 25-10 set four victory, giving the team a 3-1 win in the conference opener.
