CHATTANOOGA, TENN. – The Wofford College volleyball team took down the Chattanooga Mocs 3-1 on Saturday afternoon inside of Maclellan Gym. Wofford improves to 2-0 in conference play with a 9-5 overall record. Chattanooga falls to 5-9 with a 0-2 record in SoCon action.
Bradley Brown tied her career high of 18 kills on a staggering .485 hitting percentage.
Chloe Smith followed behind with 15 kills for her seventh-straight match with 15 or more kills.
Avery White had 12 kills on a .478 hitting percentage.
Maddy Frazier led the offense with a season-high 34 assists while
Taylor Pecht dished out 16 helpers. Frazier and White led the team with two service aces apiece.
Laney Klika totaled 14 digs to lead the team.
Chloe Smith had 11 for her seventh double-double of the season.
Avery White tallied her first career double-double after adding 10 digs to her 12 kills.
Charlotte Bell led the team with four blocks, including two solo rejections.
Chloe Smith had three.
Both teams traded points to start the first set as the stanza was tied 7-7 early on. A kill from
Bradley Brown kick started a 6-0 run, however, as the team took a 13-7 advantage. The Mocs fought back later in the set, cutting Wofford's lead to four points, 19-15. The Terriers responded with four-straight points to secure a 25-17 win in set one. Back-to-back kills from
Charlotte Bell and
Avery White clinched the first set.
Chattanooga took an early 3-0 lead in set two. With Wofford trailing 4-2, the team scored eight unanswered points to take a 10-4 advantage. Three kills by
Chloe Smith highlighted the run. Chattanooga responded, scoring four points of its own to cut the deficit to two. The Mocs later brought the set to within one point, 11-10, but Wofford closed the set with 14-5 run. The Terriers took set two 25-15.
Wofford started set three with a 4-0 lead as the team later stretched that out to a 7-5 advantage. A 7-1 run from the Mocs after that put Wofford down 12-8, however. Despite Chattanooga pushing the Wofford deficit out to six points, 18-12, the Terriers were able to bring the set to 19-17. Wofford could not earn the sweep as Chattanooga claimed set three 25-19.
The Terriers took a quick 6-1 lead in the final set of the match. Wofford later turned that into a 15-7 advantage after kills from both
Avery White and
Emily Normand. Chattanooga scored three-straight points a few rallies later, but another kill from White put a halt to the Chattanooga run. The Terriers would go on to win set four 25-19 and the match 3-1.
Wofford will return home to Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium after a five-match road swing. The Terriers will welcome UNCG on October 2-3.
