Volleyball Sweeps UNCG 3-0 to Start The Weekend

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep against UNCG on Friday night inside Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. Head coach Lynze Roos recorded her 200th career win at Wofford with the victory over the Spartans. Wofford improves to 10-5 on the season with a 3-0 start to conference play. UNCG falls to 9-5 with a 2-1 record in SoCon action.
 
Bradley Brown led the team with 13 kills on a .565 hitting percentage while Chloe Smith followed behind with 12 kills on a .360 percentage. Smith has now reached double-digit kills in nine-straight matches. Taylor Mendez tallied 11 kills while hitting .688. Maddy Frazier led the team with 20 assists along with 18 from Taylor Pecht. Pecht had a team-high two service aces as well.
 
Laney Klika posted a match-high 16 digs on the night. Ella Coleman followed behind with 11. Emily Normand led the efforts at the net with a career-high six blocks. Bradley Brown had five of her own while Charlotte Bell ended the night with four. The defense held Allie Sweet, the nation's leader in kills, to 11 kills – the second lowest of her season thus far.
 
Wofford ended the match with 47 kills on a .460 hitting percentage while UNCG had 30 kills on a .132 percentage. Both teams finished with four aces each. Wofford owned the net, blocking 10 UNCG attacks while the Spartans had two blocks. Wofford had 52 digs on the night compared to 29 from UNCG. The .460 hitting percentage was the highest by the team since hitting .500 against North Carolina A&T in 2011.
 
UNCG jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead to start the first set of the match, but Wofford responded with a 7-1 run to take a 7-4 advantage. After UNCG ended the run, the Terriers rolled off four more unanswered points to take a 12-6 lead. Wofford maintained control for the rest of the stanza, winning set one 25-15. Bradley Brown totaled six kills in the first set.
 
Once again UNCG gained an early lead to start set two. Wofford answered, however, taking a 7-4 lead after a 6-1 run. UNCG was able to cut the lead to two points, but three-straight points from Wofford allowed the team to hold a 15-10 advantage heading into the media timeout. Wofford pushed that lead out to seven points, 22-15. Despite the deficit, UNCG fought back to bring the set within two points. The comeback fell short as Wofford eventually took set two 25-20.
 
With Wofford up 5-4 in the final set of the match, the Terriers rattled off a 7-1 run to give the team a 12-5 lead. UNCG kept the score within seven until Wofford went on another 8-1 run as the Terriers led 23-10. Wofford earned a convincing 25-12 set three victory to clinch a straight-set sweep.
 
Wofford will look to earn the series sweep against UNCG tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m. inside of Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. The match can be streamed live on ESPN+.
