Volleyball Earns Straight-Set Win to Secure Series Sweep Over UNCG

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College volleyball team swept UNCG 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium in front of a sold-out crowd. Wofford improves to 11-5 on the season with a perfect 4-0 mark in conference play. UNCG is 9-6 with a 2-2 record in SoCon action.
 
Chloe Smith led the team with 13 kills on the afternoon – her 10th-straight match with double-digit kills. She is the first Terrier to record 10 or more kills in at least 10 consecutive matches since Catie Cronister in 2019. Bradley Brown followed behind with 12 kills on a .360 hitting percentage. Maddy Frazier led the group with 24 assists while Taylor Pecht had 15.
 
Laney Klika was the only Terrier to reach double-digit digs as the senior finished the day with 19. Bradley Brown had a team-high four blocks – two of which were solo. Avery White followed behind with three while Charlotte Bell and Emily Normand had two each.
 
Wofford recorded 42 kills on a .234 hitting percentage while UNCG had 32 kills on a .135 percentage. Both teams finished the match with four aces each. The Terriers earned a slight edge with seven blocks to UNCG's six. Wofford had 53 digs compared to 39 from UNCG.
 
Wofford jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead in the first set of the match, with the run capped off by a dump set from Maddy Frazier. Wofford continued to hold a comfortable lead over UNCG as the team led 18-12 later in the set. UNCG fought back, however, cutting the Wofford lead to two points, 23-21. The Terriers responded with back-to-back points to secure set one 25-21.
 
Once again Wofford held an early 7-3 lead in the second set. The Spartans were able to bring the stanza back within one, with Wofford leading 9-8. A 6-1 run from the Terriers after that allowed the team to take a 15-9 advantage. UNCG came within two points later in the set, but another 7-1 run from Wofford sealed a 25-17 win in set two.
 
UNCG led for the first part of set three as Wofford trailed 8-4 early on. Wofford was able to tie the set at 12-all, but UNCG ended the skid with a kill to put the team up one point. Wofford responded, however, going on a 5-1 run to earn its first lead of the stanza, 17-14. Despite tying the set at 18-18, Wofford was able to hold on for a 25-22 set three win to earn back-to-back sweeps against UNCG.
 
The Terriers will have a short turnaround with Western Carolina visiting on Tuesday, October 6, at 6:00 p.m. The match can be streamed live on ESPN+.
