Samford Spoils the Party at Women’s Soccer Senior Day

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Samford Bulldogs earned a 2-0 win over the Wofford College women's soccer team on Senior Day at Snyder Field, Sunday in Spartanburg.

The Terriers honored seniors Kara Boggs, Maureen Buff, Jordan Burke, Shonte Campbell, Vicki Hill, Annika Jansson, Mary Kathryn Macklen and Chelsea Turner in a pregame celebration.

The Terriers held off Samford through the first half, displaying quality defense and showing promise on some runs, but would not prevail in the end.

Samford's Amanda Abbott opened the scoring for the Bulldogs, finding the game-winner at the 49:25 mark. Brittany Hoffman began the run for the Bulldogs, playing the ball into the box where Abbott headed in for the 1-0 advantage.

The Bulldogs struck again in the 82nd minute, when Malcanisha Kelley ran shoulder-to-shoulder with freshman Brooke Leftwich in the box and overpowered her to shoot the second goal of the match.

The Terriers were outshot, 19-8, with three shots on frame. Boggs logged eight saves in the Wofford loss.

The women's soccer wraps up regular season action with two road games, beginning on Friday, where the Terriers head to Lexington, Virginia, to take on the Keydets of VMI. Kickoff begins at 4 p.m.
