LEXINGTON, Va. - The Wofford College women's soccer team downed the Keydets of VMI to lock up the No. 7 seed in the Southern Conference tournament on Friday afternoon at Patchin Field.
The eventual game-winner came at the foot of Annika Jansson in the 20th minute, when the senior forward recieved the ball from classmate Maureen Buff.
The Terriers, who will sit at No. 7 in the final Southern Conference standings will host either The Citadel or Chattanooga on Wednesday, October 29th for the first round of the SoCon Championships.
Wofford was dominant in the outing, outshooting the Keydets 29-2.
The second goal came when Vicky Hill played a cross to the left side of the box for Hannah Washko, who hit Bleekrode in stride in the middle for an open shot and a 2-0 Wofford advantage. The score would remain the same through halftime, thanks to six saves by Sydnie Bligh in goal. Hannah Washko had two second-half goals to help break open the match and send the Terriers past VMI Keydets. Washko scored off a counter and a Bleekrode chip in the 58th minute for a 3-0 lead. She then added in the 63rd minute, tallying off a rebound, for her second goal of the match and fourth of the year.
Wofford added an additional score from Buff for her sixth goal of the season with just over 14 minutes remaining to account for the final margin.
The Terriers wrap up the regular season, Sunday at 2 p.m., where they head tyo UNCG Soccer Stadium in Greensboro to take on the Spartans.
