JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Buccaneers of East Tennessee State University held Wofford to 34 percent from the floor, proving too much for the Wofford College women's basketball team to handle, as the Terriers fell, 69-47, at Brooks Gym on Saturday afternoon.
Wofford (5-14, 0-4 SoCon) was flat out of the gate, as ETSU (12-7, 4-0 SoCon) opened up the game on a 14-2 run. The Bucs continued to storm ahead, opening up a 17-point lead before the ending the first half, 36-22.
For Wofford, two Terriers scored in double figures. Grayson Pinholster went 4-of-7 from the floor, scoring 10 points in the outing. Jordan Frazier scored a team-high 15, shooting 5-of-16 with two 3-pointers.
ETSU saw four Bucs in double-figures, with Destiny Mitchell leading the way. The forward grabbed a double-double, dropping 16 points while grabbing 14 rebounds. Shamauria Bridges (17), Maria Bond (15) and Tianna Turner (10) each netted ten-plus points as well.
The Bucs controlled the glass, and with it the game, outrebounding Wofford by a 20-board margin.
Wofford had a run early in the second half that looked promising. Frazier scored eight coming out of the locker room, cutting the Terrier deficit to eight. This spurred motivation in ETSU, who made a16-4 run of their own, blowing the game open to a 20-point lead.
ETSU jumped out to as much as 24 before the eventual 22-point defeat for the Terriers.
The Terriers continue their road stand on Monday, where Wofford heads down to cross-town rival Furman in Greenville, South Carolina. The two sides tip at 7:00 p.m.
