Terriers Drop Road Match at Mercer

MACON, Ga. – The women's soccer team lost to Mercer on the road Friday night 2-1 at Bear Field.

Mercer defender Katelyn Dimopoulos scored in the 87th minute of the match to give the Bears the 2-1 advantage over the Terriers with only 3:20 left to play in regulation.

The Terriers (4-7-4, 2-4-2 SoCon) opened the match with an early lead, as forward Carlyn Fralick scored her second goal of the season in the eighth minute of the match. The senior converted an opportunity after Mercer defenders failed to clear the ball from the box to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead.

The Bears (8-6-3, 5-2-1 SoCon) would answer though, as forward Maddie Clark scored an equalizing goal on a header from a Haleigh Svede pass in the 23rd minute.

The Terriers did not have many opportunities to win the match, as they were held to four shots total compared to Mercer's 15. Wofford, however, did have the corner advantage, as the Terriers took three corner kicks compared to Mercer's zero attempts.

The Terriers' best chance to win the match came in the 74th minute. Midfielder Hayley Younginer took a shot on goal, but Mercer goalkeeper Maggie Cropp was able to save the shot and keep the score tied at 1-1.

Goalkeeper Alex Carroll suffered the loss for the Terriers in net, making seven saves. Cropp saved the one Younginer shot and earned the victory in net for the Bears.

Wofford is now 1-3 all-time against Mercer and are 0-2 at Bear Field, previously dropping a match in 2003 at Bear Field. The Terriers' lone win against Mercer came in 1998, a 3-2 victory in the Terriers' season opener.

Wofford continues its weekend roadtrip on Sunday, as the Terriers conclude regular season action at The Citadel at 2 p.m.
