Women's Basketball Drops Road Contest at CSU

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The women's basketball team fell behind early and could not make up the deficit in their 74-64 loss to Charleston Southern Monday night at the Buccaneer Field House.
 
The Terriers (0-4) fell behind 18-5 in the first period, but were able to outscore the Buccaneers (3-1) in the second period 16-10 to make it 28-21 at halftime.
 
Both teams exploded offensively in the second half. The Terriers scored 43 points in the half, including 31 in the fourth period alone. The Bucs however matched the Terriers 31 points in the fourth period and scored 46 in the second half to maintain their lead.
 
Wofford started the fourth period on a 14-8 run over the first five minutes of the period, cutting the Bucs lead to as low as four points. The Bucs however matched the Terriers basket for basket and hit their free throws down the stretch to ice the game.
 
Senior guard Ashton Fleming scored five of the Terriers points during the fourth period run, finishing the game with 11 points and 10 rebounds for her 10th career double-double.
 
Freshman guard Chloe Wanink hit five of her six shots for the game in the second half as well, scoring a career-high 13 points on 6-9 shooting.
 
Wofford for the game made 27-31 (.871) free throw attempts, going 6-6 in the first half and 21-25 in the second half. Senior guard Jordan Frazier was 8-9 from the charity stripe on the game, scoring eight of her 10 points in the game at the line.
 
Bucs guard Alyssa Mann led her team with 29 points on 8-15 shooting, including 3-5 from three and 10-15 from the free throw line. Guard Shauntavia Dobson chipped in 19 points, including five three pointers.
 
The Terriers had seven steals in the game, with junior forward Kentra Washington swiping four steals in the first half. She finished with 12 points, four rebounds and two blocks to go with the four steals.
 
The loss extends Wofford's losing streak to seven games dating back to last season, and is the fifth consecutive road loss. Charleston Southern now owns a 6-5 advantage in the all-time series against Wofford.
 
The road trip continues for the Terriers Wednesday, as Wofford travels to Blacksburg, Virginia, to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies at 7 p.m. in Cassell Coliseum.
