GREENSBORO, N.C. – On Sunday afternoon, UNCG brought out the bats as they defeated Wofford 14-7 at UNCG Baseball Stadium. The Spartans jumped out to an 11-0 lead after three innings, which included three home runs. Wofford was able to score the final six runs of the game, including three runs in the ninth inning.

Wofford is 32-16 overall and 10-7 in the Southern Conference. UNCG is 21-22 overall and 11-10 in league play. The Terriers won the weekend series against the Spartans for the third straight season. The Spartans had a total of 19 hits in the game, the most by a Wofford opponent this season. UNCG was led by Hunter King with three hits and seven RBIs, while Jake Kusz had four hits and four RBIs. Wofford was led by Carson Waln and Demetrius Jennings with two hits each, while Alec Paradowski and Matt Pelt both had a pair of RBIs.

The Terriers left one runner on base in the top of the first inning after a walk. UNCG lead off the bottom of the first with an infield single. A home run to center field by Hunter King gave the Spartans an early 2-0 lead. A double was followed by a pair of ground outs and an RBI single by Jake Kusz made it 3-0. A fly ball ended the first inning with one runner stranded.

Wofford stranded Demetrius Jennings in the top of the second inning after he hit a single with two outs. The Spartans opened the bottom of the second with a double and a bunt single gave UNCG runners on the corners. With one out, a double by Hunter King drove in two runs for a 5-0 advantage. A home run by Aaron Wright to right center added two more runs for a 7-0 lead before a pair of fly balls ended the second inning.

In the top of the third inning, Alec Paradowski walked with one out. A walk to James Plaisted with two outs, but a pop fly stranded both runners. UNCG began the bottom of the third with a single, double, and hit by pitch to load the bases. With one out, a fielder's choice added a run for an 8-0 score. A three-run homer to left field by Hunter King pushed the lead to 11-0 before a ground out ended the inning.

The Terriers added a single in the top of the fourth by Kody Ruedisili. Matt Pelt came in to pinch run and moved to second on a wild pitch. A single up the middle by Max McDougald drove in Pelt to make it an 11-1 game in the middle of the fourth inning. The Spartans led off the bottom of the fourth with a triple and a single by Jake Kusz drove in the runner for a 12-1 lead. A double play and strikeout closed out the fourth inning.

Both teams stranded a runner in the fifth inning. A double play ended the top of the sixth for Wofford. The Spartans led off the bottom of the sixth with back-to-back singles. The runners advanced on a wild pitch and a single by Jake Kusz drove in both runners for a 14-1 score. Two runners were left on base to end the sixth inning. With one out in the top of the seventh inning, Alec Paradowski hit a two-run homer over the fence in right field to make it a 14-3 game. A double play ended the bottom of the seventh inning.

Carson Waln led off the top of the eighth with a single and he stole second base. Demetrius Jennings it a single up the middle to drive in Waln for a 14-4 score. In the bottom of the eighth, the Spartans were retired in order. Wofford opened the top of the ninth with Alex Malsch reaching on an error and Pete Carrier being hit by a pitch. A walk to Matt Ramsay loaded the bases. After two infield flies, an infield single by Carson Waln drove in a run to make it 14-5. A single from Matt Pelt to center field plated two more runs and cut the lead to 14-7. With the bases loaded and two gone, a bunt ground out ended the game.

Wofford starting pitcher Adam Scott (6-3) gave up a career-high seven runs on eight hits in the first inning and a third. Elliot Lance went 1.1 innings with four runs allowed on four hits. Jordan Accetta worked 2.1 innings with one run allowed on three hits. Merritt Huber gave up two runs on four hits in a third of an inning. David Ehmen went two thirds of an inning and did not allow a hit with one strikeout. Grant Byers and Connor Foltyn each worked an inning and did not allow a hit.

Freshman Chad Sykes (1-0) started for UNCG and went six innings with one run allowed on four hits. He had a career-high eight strikeouts and walked four to earn his first career win. Michael Bates threw 1.1 innings with three runs allowed on three hits. Keaton Haack worked 1.1 innings with three runs allowed on two hits. Tyler Frazier recorded the final out for the Spartans.
