Kentra Washington scoring a game-high 19 points, the women's basketball team fell to the Samford Bulldogs 58-39 in Benjamin Johnson Arena Saturday afternoon.

Facing the nation's third-best scoring defense, the Terriers (7-14, 1-6 SoCon) were held to 15 first-half points as Samford (14-8, 6-1 SoCon) entered halftime with an 11-point lead and maintained a double-digit lead through the majority of the second half.

Washington started the game shooting 4-4 and scoring the Terriers' first five points of the game. She gave the Terriers a 13-12 lead with her only field goal of the second period with 9:48 to play. She scored five points in each period in the second half as well. She also had a team-high six rebounds and three steals on 6-13 shooting in the game.

Forward
Grayson Pinholster tied her career-high with four blocks as the Terriers blocked seven shots in the game.

The Bulldogs were led offensively by guards Amara Mayers and Brittany Stevens, with each scoring 10 points. Guard Krista Stricklin had a game-high 10 rebounds to go with seven points.

Samford shot 32.1 percent from the field and held Wofford to 27.5 percent from the floor. The Terriers did well defending the three, holding Samford to 2-18 (11.1 percent) from deep.

The Terriers were outrebounded 46-33 by Samford and lost the turnover battle 17-13. Each team had nine assists and seven steals in the game.

The loss extends Samford's winning streak over the Terriers to eight games dating back to the 2011-12 season. Samford currently sits in a tie with Mercer for first place in the conference.

Wofford is on the road for their next three games. The Terriers next suit up to face East Tennessee State Thursday at 11 a.m. in Johnson City, Tennessee.
