SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women's basketball team earned its first win in a rout over Erskine, 116-74 on Thursday night at Benjamin Johnson Arena. The team's 116 points is the most in the history of the program, which dates back to the 1980-81 season.
Â
All 12 players that received minutes for the Terriers ended up in the scoring column. Sophomore guard
Chloe Wanink notched career highs in points (25) and rebounds (10), while also recording the first double-double of her career. Wanink has led the team in scoring in both of the Terriers games this season.
"That was a special night for her," Terrier head coach
Jimmy Garrity said. "The thing that was most impressive was her rebounding, especially on the offensive end. She can score in a variety of ways. She can hit the three and take it off the dribble."
Â
Wanink was joined in double figures by seniors
Kentra Washington,
Sarah Traynor, and
Maria Corella. Washington dropped 17 points on 8-11 from the field. She also added three assists, two steals, and two blocks. Traynor finished with 12 points on a career best four of four from three point range. The senior guard also produced a career high six assists. Corella was also in double figures, adding 11 points on four assists.
Â
The team's first win of the season is the first win at Wofford for Garrity. "I'm really proud of our team," Garrity said. "The way we shared the ball and ran the floor. We played fairly good defense. We rebounded the ball really well, and in the second half we did a much better job of taking care of the ball."
Â
In the first few minutes of the game, Wofford and Erskine were tied at 6-6. However, from there, the Terriers went on a 26-12 run to take a 32-18 lead after the 1
st quarter.
Â
The Terriers only increased their lead the rest of the way, leading by 19 at half and twenty seven at the end of the third quarter, before adding 32 fourth quarter points to reach 116 points for the first time in program history.
Â
Junior guard
Emily Ryan poured in eight points on two of two from behind the arc, both career highs. Fellow junior
Amoshia Blakeney tied a career high with three assists, while freshman guard
Hannah Morgan scored her first career points, hitting two free throws.
Â
Overall, the Terriers ended the night 12 for 19 on three pointers (62.7%). The Terriers had not shot at least 50% from three point range since last season against Radford (12/18/15).
