Volleyball Defeats The Citadel

Terriers Tie School Record for Conference Wins in a Season (9), Surpass Total Wins from 2015

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford volleyball team picked up its third consecutive conference win on Saturday afternoon, defeating The Citadel in four sets in front of dozens of Wofford volleyball alums back for reunion weekend in the Benjamin Johnson Arena. It was also senior day for Wofford's Alyse High and Ellie Tallman. With the win, Wofford improves to 17-13 on the season and 9-6 in Southern Conference play. The 17 wins in the season surpasses last year's win total of 16 wins and the nine conference wins ties a school record set in 2001.

"This weekend was an amazing weekend for us," said head coach Lynze Roos. "Our team looked confident and relaxed. I'm pleased with our effort and focus. I think we are really figuring out some of our strengths right now."

Roos also gives credit to the crowd for providing energy in the matches over the weekend, noting the support from the volleyball alumni back in town.

"I think showing so many of our young players the support of our alumni is essential," said Roos. "I was blown away by the amount of alums who made the trip back to Wofford to say goodbye to the BenJo. Sharing time together really connects the players to that history."

The Citadel came out hot, winning the first set 25-21. The Terriers would rally to take the second set 25-15, tying Wofford's largest margin of victory in a set this season. Wofford's momentum would continue out of the break and the Terriers would take the third and fourth sets 25-22 and 25-19, respectively, to clinch the victory. Wofford finishes the regular season 2-0 against The Citadel and has now won 11 in a row against the Bulldogs. Wofford is now 7-2 in in four set matches this season and has won three consecutive conference matches for the second time this season.

Three Wofford players finished with double digit kills for the match. Catie Cronister recorded double digit kills for the 22nd time this season as the freshman from Chicago finished with a match high 21 kills. Kara Shacklette hit .600 for the match as the freshman had 15 kills and zero errors on 25 attempts. Colleen Reilly tallied 13 kills and hit .226 for the match. Reilly has 17 matches with atleast 10 kills this season.

Lorissa King finished with 52 assists, two shy of her season high of 54, though that came in a five setter on Sept. 3 at App. State. Madeline Savage tallied 19 digs and freshman Morgan Ballard finished with 10 digs as well.

As a team, the Terriers hit .269 on the afternoon, the second consecutive matching hitting above .250. The Bulldogs hit .154.

Wofford concludes conference play on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at Samford and will host SC State on Sunday, Nov. 13 at 2 pm in the final regular season match of the season.
