Chapel Hill, N.C. – The Wofford women's soccer team fell in their season opener to No. 3 Duke 9- 1 on Friday night at the Carolina Nike Classic in Chapel Hill.
The Blue Devils struck early, as they scored three times in the first ten minutes and took a 6-0 lead into halftime.
After the halftime break, Duke tallied three more goals before
Hayley Younginer intercepted a pass and finished over the keeper from the top of the box to give Wofford its first goal of the season.
Younginer led the Terriers last season with six goals.
Forward
Hannah Washko led the team in shots attempted for the game with two. Overall, Wofford was outshot 19-4 for the contest. All four Terrier shots came in the second half.
In goal,
Alex Carroll (0-1) played the first half and recorded one save while
Mayson Liner subbed in for the second half and also notched a save.
Duke's nine goals on the evening were scored by nine different players.
Up next, Wofford will travel to Coastal Carolina and play Sunday at 1 P.M.
