WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – On the second day of the Black and Gold Invitational, the Wofford College volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Summit School. The Terriers won the first match of the day 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 21-25, 25-21) over Charlotte. In the second match, High Point defeated Wofford 3-1 (25-17, 24-26, 25-16, 25-11).

Wofford is now 7-6 on the season. Against Charlotte,
Lorissa King had a double-double with 24 assists and 10 digs.
M.E. Eberhardt added 17 assists, while
Madeline Savage had 22 digs. The team had a .220 attack percentage and the 49ers were at .115 in the match. Against High Point,
Lorissa King had another double-double with 28 assists and 11 digs.
Bella Santoro had 14 kills and ten digs. The Panthers had a .262 attack percentage to a .144 attack percentage for the Terriers.

Lorissa King led the Terriers with a 31 assists.
Catie Cronister had a team-high 18 kills and added twelve digs.
Colleen Reilly had 13 kills and a .500 attack percentage. The Terriers had a .209 overall attack percentage, while the Demon Deacons were at .229 for the match. Wake Forest was led by Kylie Long with 17 kills and Bailey Shurbet with 41 assists. There were a total of 30 ties and 14 lead changes in the match.

In the first match against Charlotte, the score was tied at eight when Wofford scored five straight with
Kara Shacklette serving for a 13-8 advantage. The 49ers ended the run, but Wofford added three straight points and took a 17-9 lead. With the Terriers up 20-13, Charlotte called a time out and proceeded to cut the lead to 22-20. The 49ers made it a 23-22 score, but Wofford was able to come away with a 25-23 win in the first set.

The Terriers and 49ers were tied at seven when Charlotte had three straight points for a 10-7 lead. Wofford was able to chip away at the lead and tie the game at 17. It was tied at 18 before a pair of points by the Terriers. Wofford was able to keep a lead and were up 24-22 when the 49ers made it a one point game. A kill by

Lorissa King gave the Terriers a 25-23 win and a 2-0 lead in the match.

In the third set, the Terriers had an early 8-5 lead. Wofford pushed the lead to 16-11 after three straight kills by
Lauren Miller. A pair of attack errors gave the Terriers an 18-11 lead. The 49ers answered with six straight points to cut the lead to 18-16 before a pair of points for Wofford. With the Terriers holding a 21-17 lead, Charlotte scored eight straight points to close out the game with a 25-21 score.

Headed to the fourth set, Wofford scored the first two points and maintained a lead until Charlotte tied it up at 11. The score was tied ten times, including at 21. A kill by
Catie Cronister gave the Terriers a 22-21 lead. After a service ace by
Bella Santoro, an attack error gave Wofford match point. A kill by
Kelly Bossert from
Lorissa King gave the Terriers a 25-21 win in the set and a 3-1 victory in the match.

The second match of the day against High Point, the Panthers jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first set. Wofford was able to close the score to 9-8 and force a time out. High Point pulled away with a 19-12 lead and were able to take the set 25-17. In the second set, Wofford took an early 3-1 lead before the score was tied at 5, 7, and 11. The Terriers scored the next three points for a 14-11 advantage, but the teams were tied once again at 17 and 18. The Panthers score three straight for a 21-18 lead and then had a 23-19 lead. A service ace set up set point, but Wofford then rallied for seven straight points to take the set 26-24.

The third set was tied early at three points each before the Panthers went on a run as they built an 11-5 lead. The High Point lead continued to grow and they ended up with a 25-16 win in the set. Set four belong to the Panthers, as they never trailed. They took a 13-10 lead and proceeded to score the twelve of the next thirteen points in the set to win 25-11 and earn a 3-1 victory in the match.

The Terriers will return home on Tuesday, September 20 as they host USC Upstate at 6:00 p.m. before beginning Southern Conference play on Friday, September 23 against UNC Greensboro.
