SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women's soccer team fell to Samford, 5-0, on Friday night in their Southern Conference opener at Snyder Field
The Bulldogs scored in the opening minute on a cross from Malcanisha Kelley that was headed in by Jermaine Seoposenwe. For Kelley, the opening minute goal was the first of her three assists on the night.
Throughout the rest of the half, Samford added three more goals, as Taylor Borman netted her fourth of the year, while Korrie Sauder and Erin Bonner each scored for the first time on the season.
For the Terriers, sophomore goalkeeper
Mayson Liner registered a season high eight saves in the loss. In the second half, she made two diving saves to hold Samford to just one second half goal. On the offensive side for Wofford,
Katie Beuerlein,
Brooke Leftwich,
Brianna LaFontant, and
Hannah Washko attempted one shot each for the game.
After trailing by four goals going into the halftime break, the Terriers showed fight in the second half, allowing the Bulldogs just one more goal. Once again, it was Kelley assisting Seoposenwe on her sixth goal of the season and second of the evening.
Up next, Wofford hosts Chattanooga this Sunday, Sept. 25, at 2 p.m., in their second game of Southern Conference play.
