Terriers Unable to Fend off ETSU

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women's basketball team was unable to fend off a furious second half rally from ETSU, falling, 77-69, on Saturday afternoon at Benjamin Johnson Arena.
 
It was a tale of two halves, with the Terriers dominating the opening 20 minutes, building a lead as large as 20 points. However, the Bucs responded by outscoring Wofford, 44-25, in the second half, to complete the comeback victory. ETSU's Tianna Tarter had an outstanding game, scoring 29 points, to go along with seven assists and five rebounds.
 
Kelsey Lambdin put in another stellar performance for the Terriers. The junior forward set new career highs with 18 points and four made three pointers.  Chloe Wanink added 17 points for the Terriers, knocking down 4-of-5 free throws. Wanink also delivered four rebounds and three assists.
 
Maria Corella also set a career high, delivering a career best 11 rebounds to go with 12 points. It was Corella's second double-double in SoCon play this season, as she had 18 points and 10 rebounds in the SoCon opener against Western Carolina (1/5). Freshman guard Cairo Booker delivered eight points off the bench on 4-of-6 from the field. She also led the team in assists, tying her career high with five.
 
For the second straight game, the Terriers was off and running from the opening tip, as they took a 23-13 lead into the second quarter. The team shot an exceptional 9-13 (69.2%) from the floor in the opening quarter.
 
The second quarter was much of the same, with Wofford extending its lead to as much as 20 points with 7:15 to play in the first half. The team once again shot over 50% in the quarter to take a 44-33 lead into halftime. The Terriers 44 points in the first half were the most the team has scored in a half during SoCon play this season.
 
The Buccaneers turned up its defensive intensity in the third quarter, cutting into Wofford's lead due to four made threes in the period.
 
After Wofford took a four point lead into the final quarter, ETSU was able to take the lead for good with just over six minutes remaining in the contest. Tarter scored 14 of her game high 29 points in the fourth to help ETSU earn the win.
 
Despite the loss, the Terriers had another game with a positive assist to turnover ratio, this time delivering 14 assists to just 13 turnovers. Wofford also won the battle in the paint in addition to the rebounding battle. The team outscored ETSU, 38-34, inside, and outrebounded the Bucs, 34-33.
 
The loss gives the Terriers their longest losing streak of the season at four games.
