Women's Tennis Earns Road Win at Florida A&M

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. – The Wofford women's tennis team earned a hard fought road win, 6-1, at Florida A&M on Sunday morning in Tallahassee.

The Terriers win improves them to 3-2 on the season, with five of their first six matches coming on the road.

After the Terriers easily took the doubles point, the team won three of the first four singles matches to clinch the victory. Even after the match was clinched, Wofford's Kalli Karas and Cassidy Hicks rallied to win in three sets to give the team an impressive, 6-1 victory.

"I was really proud of the way the girls competed and found ways to win the close matches today," head coach Krissy Hall said. "It was great to end the trip with a victory."

Playing in the no. 2 doubles position, Catherine Martin and Lauren Reid started the match with an easy, 6-2 win. Karras and Hicks followed with a 6-3 win to give the Terriers the opening point. Even with the point clinched, Curran Carver and Taylor Carlson battled to win, 7-5, improving their doubles record to 2-2 on the season.

In singles play, Carver improved her record to a team best 3-1 by quickly dispatching Florida A&M's Karen Machisa, 6-3, 6-1. Reid followed with a 6-4, 6-2 win in the no. 4 position.

After the Rattlers took a singles match to close the gap to 3-1, Taylor Carlson took home her match, 7-6 (7-1), 4-6, 6-3, to clinch the match for the Terriers. Carlson had to win a tiebreak to take the first set, and followed a loss in the second set with a third set win.

Hicks and Karras also won three set battles. Hicks lost a first set tiebreak, before responding by winning the final two sets, 6-4, 6-3, to earn her third singles win of the season. Karas dropped the second set, but also rallied to win the third, 6-4, to get her third singles win.
