Volleyball Downs WCU to Continue Win Streak

Wofford Wins Second Five Setter in 24 Hours, King & Reilly Record Career Highs

SPARTANBURG, S.C. –The Wofford volleyball team won its second five set match in a 24 hour period with a 3-2 win over Western Carolina on Saturday night in front of a rowdy crowd in Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium.

With the win, Wofford run its win streak to four, three of which are conference wins. The Terriers improve to 14-6 overall and 4-2 in Southern Conference play, while Western Carolina falls to 6-13 on the season and 1-5 in conference action.

Wofford won the first two sets, 25-20 and 25-22, respectively, but the Catamounts rallied to wins sets three (27-25) and four (25-22) to force a fifth set. The Terriers won the fifth set 15-10 to seal the victory.

Just one night after setting a new career high in kills, Wofford outside hitter Catie Cronister had 24 kills in the win, tying a match best with teammate Colleen Reilly. The sophomore hit .278 on the night and added 15 digs to record her seventh double-double of the season and third in a row. She added four aces and two blocks.

"We have had two really good performances out of Catie the last two matches," said head coach Lynze Roos. "It's fun to see her grow as a player and see her continue to improve."

Colleen Reilly added 24 kills, a career high, on 40 attempts, also a career high. Reilly had just four errors and hit .500, her seventh outing this season with atleast a .500 hitting percentage.

"For Colleen to have 24 kills and hit .500 was truly a difference maker in the match," said Roos.

In addition to Cronister's 15 digs, three other Terriers joined her with double-digit kills. Taylor Gill, the libero from Madison, Alabama, led all players with 22 digs. Bijonae Jones added 18 digs and 12 kills to earn her third double-double on the year.

"It's impressive to have four players with double-digit kills," Roos added. "Solid passing is something we focused on this week."

Also one night after setting a career high with 56 assists, Wofford setter Lorissa King bested that performance with 62 in tonight's win.

Wofford continues its homestand. After three home matches this week, the Terriers enjoy six days off from competition before hosting ETSU Friday, Oct. 13 at 6 p.m. Wofford will also host Chattanooga on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 2 p.m.
