Women's Basketball Cruises to 104-57 Win

Spartanburg, S.C. – The Wofford women's basketball team won 104-57 over Southern Wesleyan on Thursday evening in Wofford's home opener at Richardson Indoor Stadium. Wofford never trailed in a game that the Terriers dominated both offensively and defensively. The Terriers shot 49% from the field on 36-73 shooting, while holding Southern Wesleyan to 32% on 20-61 shooting.
 
"We challenged our players tonight to come out here and make an impression in our first game in Richardsoon Indoor Stadium," said head coach Jimmy Garrity. "We leave tonight feeling like we played hard and smart while working together as a team and sacrificing for one another. We took care of the ball really well tonight and it's good to see results from the things we practice. Overall we're very happy with the performance and we look forward to our next challenge."
 
The Terriers got out to a 31-12 lead in the first quarter and never looked back as Wofford shot 58% from the field in the quarter on 14-24 shooting. Wofford continued to shoot the ball well from the field going 8-15 in the second quarter while stretching the halftime lead to 32. After the break, Wofford came out cold in the third quarter but used good defense to extend the lead once again, this time to 37 points at the end of the third quarter. The Terriers got back on track in the fourth quarter shooting 10-20 from the field en route to Wofford's first win of the season.
 
Wofford was led by Chloe Wanink with 27 points, four rebounds, three assists and one steal. Wanink was 8-11 from the field, 5-5 from three and 6-7 from the line and she did not commit a turnover in 22 minutes. Jamari McDavid also helped the Terriers with 22 points (7-12), five rebounds and two assists over 17 minutes. Starting guard's Cairo Booker (14 points, three rebounds and one assist) and Da'Ja Green (four points, seven rebounds and eight assists) both turned in solid efforts for the Terriers.
 
As a team, the Terriers totaled 21 assists on 36 buckets and out-rebounded Southern Wesleyan 50-36.
 
Wofford will return to the court on Sunday, November 19 when the Terriers travel to Columbia to face off against reigning National Champions, South Carolina.
