Women’s Basketball Wins 77-56

Spartanburg, S.C. – The Wofford women's basketball team won 77-56 over N.C. Central on Tuesday morning at Richardson Indoor Stadium on Education Day. The Terriers and Eagles struggled to take care of the ball in the first two quarters but Wofford came out of the halftime break outscoring N.C. Central 41-26 in the final two quarters. With the win, Wofford moves to 2-2 on the season.

"First of all, I have got to give Central credit because those first three quarters they battled and stuck with us. I think we were pressing a little bit in the first quarter and we tried to play a little too fast," said head coach Jimmy Garrity. "We took a timeout in the third quarter and I really like the way our players responded to the message in the huddle. Overall it was a great team win today and credit our two guards Chloe and Da'Ja for their performances today."

The Terriers struggled in the early going as Wofford turned the ball over 8 times in the first two quarters. Despite the sloppy play, the Terriers shot 8-15 in the first quarter and led 18-17 after one period of play.

Wofford went cold in the second quarter going just 3-13 from the floor but the Terriers made up for it at the charity stripe, going 12-16 from the free throw line. Wofford's defense was solid in the first two quarters as the Terriers forced N.C. Central to turn it over 10 times while holding the Eagles to 37% shooting, sending the game into the half 36-30.

The Terriers came out of the halftime break on fire from the field, going 6-10 in the third quarter. The Eagles responded well shooting 40% from the floor and 1-3 from three-point range. Wofford outscored the Eagles 17-15 in the quarter as the game went into the fourth with Wofford leading 53-45.

In the fourth quarter, Wofford's defensive effort put N.C. Central away for good, as the Terriers held the Eagles to 17% shooting on 3-17 from the floor. Wofford went 6-12 from the field while shooting 10-11 from the free throw line to ice the game.

Wofford was led by Chloe Wanink who had 31 points and two rebounds over 36 minutes. Wanink's 31 points are a career high for the junior guard. Da'Ja Green added 23 points, six rebounds and four assists over 38 minutes. This is the second consecutive game that the freshman guard has reached 20+ points. Jamie Grob came off the bench and grabbed 10 rebounds while scoring 2 points over 27 minutes.

Wofford will return to the court on Sunday, November 26 when the Terriers host Nebraska-Omaha at 1 pm at Richardson Indoor Stadium.
