Spartanburg, S.C. – The Wofford women's basketball team beat UNC Asheville 70-68 on Thursday evening at Richardson Indoor Stadium.
Cairo Booker hit the game winning jumper with 30 seconds to play in a game that Wofford led for just 1:42 seconds. With the win Wofford moves to 4-3 on the season.

"We showed a ton of grit and toughness out there tonight. Asheville was big and physical in the paint and that was tough for us to handle early," said head coach Jimmy Garitty. "Although we didn't win the battle on the glass we improved our rebounding throughout the game and although Chloe went down with the injury our team came together and battled to get the win."

The Terriers got off to a slow start in the first quarter as Asheville forced Wofford to turn it over four times in the first period of play. Asheville outscored Wofford 19-12 while shooting 8-19 (42%) from the floor and out rebounding the Terriers 12-6.
Chloe Wanink kept the Terriers within striking distance with six points in the quarter on 3-3 shooting.

Wofford's defense and rebounding improved in the second quarter en route to the Terriers outscoring the Bulldogs 22-18. Wofford outrebounded Asheville 6-5 in the quarter and only allowed one offensive rebound after allowing six in the first quarter.
Chloe Wanink kept up her torrid pace from the first quarter as she added 11 points on 5-5 shooting in the quarter. Wanink finished the half with 17 points on 8-8 from the floor while playing all 20 minutes.

Wofford and UNC Asheville played a tight third quarter in which Wofford took its first lead of the game. Both teams were efficient from the floor as Wofford went 7-15 (46%) and the Bulldogs stayed hot, shooting 8-14 (57%) while knocking down two triples. Wofford was led by
Anna Claire Atha who came off the bench and knocked down two triples in the period.

The final quarter began with both teams trading buckets as Asheville led, 64-60 with just under three minutes to play. Wofford then went on a 10-4 run in the final 3:42 that was led by
Cairo Booker. Wofford took the 68-66 lead on an
Emily Ryan three-point shot with 1:11 to play in the quarter but Asheville responded with a jumper to tie the game at 68 with just under 45 seconds to play.

Cairo Booker hit the game winner from just inside the arc with 30 seconds to play in the game. Wofford had to play two more defensive possessions due to a turnover but the Terriers rose to the challenge.

In the win, Wofford shot 30-53 (56%) from the field, 6-11 (54%) from three and 4-7 (57%) from the line. Wofford was outrebounded by Asheville 37-26 but Wofford forced 15 Bulldogs turnovers in the win.

The Terriers were led by
Chloe Wanink who totaled 17 points on 8-9 shooting prior to exiting the game with an injury in the third quarter.
Cairo Booker added 16 points, four assists and six rebounds over 38 minutes.
Anna Claire Atha added 12 points on 4-6 from three-point range while
Jamari McDavid added 11 points and four rebounds.

Wofford returns to the court on Tuesday, December 5 when the Terriers travel to Gardner-Webb to face off against the Bulldogs at 7 pm. Â
