Terriers Fall at Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. – The Wofford women's basketball team fell at Chattanooga, 76-56, in their regular season finale on Saturday afternoon.

The loss drops the Terriers to 13-16 this season and 3-11 in SoCon play.

Although the Terriers shot the ball well from the perimeter, the Mocs size advantage inside was too much for them to handle. After Chattanooga took an eight point lead into halftime, they gradually pulled away from the Terriers in the second half to earn the win.

Maria Corella had a solid game for the Terriers, leading the team with 17 points on 3-of-5 from three point range. She also led the team with three assists. Chloe Wanink was in double figures again, adding 16 points on two three pointers.  Freshman guard Cairo Booker tallied nine points on 4-of-7 from the field.

The Terriers hung close with the Mocs early, mostly due to outstanding shooting from three point range. Because of their solid early shooting, Wofford trailed by just four points early.

However, in the second quarter, the Mocs were able to establish their rebounding advantage and built their lead to 34-26 going into halftime. Wanink led the Terriers in the first half, with 11 points.

In the third quarter, Chattanooga stretched their lead into double digits for the first time and never let up from that point forward. The Mocs went on a 16-10 run in the first seven minutes of the half to build a 12 point lead that grew to 57-43 at the end of the third.

The Mocs continued to pull away in the fourth and held the Terriers at bay to earn the win.

Jasmine Joyner had another outstanding game for the Mocs, totaling 19 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks.

The Mocs outrebounded the Terriers, 39-18, which proved to be the difference. Wofford was careful with the ball, as they dished out 10 assists and only committed seven turnovers.

With the regular season concluded, the Terriers will head to Asheville, N.C. next week for the Southern Conference Tournament, where the team will play in the quarterfinals on Thursday. Time and opponent will be determined at the conclusion of SoCon action later today.
