JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The 2017 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships concluded at the Mountain States Health Alliance Athletics Center on the campus of East Tennessee State University on Sunday and Wofford College had the best finish in school history. The men and women set new records for point totals and each finished sixth overall.

Johnny Bomar. "We have made a lot of improvement. We were not perfect, but we are learning how to compete at a high level and getting great results. On the women's side,
Amber Lust and
McLeod Dean had an excellent meet. The multi event performers on the men's side put together strong point totals. For us to have competitors in all but three finals races on Sunday really shows how much this team has grown."

The 44 points scored by the men were the most in school history, while the sixth place finish was the best in school history. For the women, the 29 points also were the most in school history, with the sixth place finish the highest ever for the Terriers.

Overall, eleven school records were set during the championship. Two individuals earned All-Southern Conference honors:
Amber Lust in the pentathlon and
William Stout in the heptathlon. The men's 4x400 relay also earned All-Southern Conference honors. Terriers also earned a total of nine All-Freshman Team honors. Â

The day began with the conclusion of the heptathlon. In the final three events,
Sam Robinson was third in the 60 meter hurdles,
William Stout was fifth in the pole vault and
Conrad Heinrich took first in the 1000 meters. When the points were tallied,
William Stout was third overall with 4525 points to set a new school record.
Conrad Heinrich was fourth overall (4439) and
Sam Robinson was fifth (4373) as all three scored for the Terriers.

In the women's 60 meter hurdle finals,
Amber Lust ran a school record 8.83 and finished fourth overall.
Kassidy Morton took seventh place in the finals of the 400 meters in a school record time of 58.16.
McLeod Dean lowered her previous school record in the 200 meters to 25.01, which was fifth overall. The women's 4x400 relay team of

Kassidy Morton,
Amber Lust and
LeAndrea Combo broke the school record by over four second with a 3:53.28 to take fourth place.

Bosco Bapoupeleh was sixth in the finals of the men's 60 meters at 7.13 and eighth in the 200 meters with a time of 22.98. In the men's 400 meters,
Bradford Smith set a new school record with a time of 50.58 that was good for seventh place.
Jack Zemp was fifth in the 800 meters at 1:55.55. In the weight throw,
Gaston Hayworth broke his school record with a distance of 16.10 meters and finished sixth overall.
Longinus Nnodim added a throw of 14.58 meters for eighth place in the weight throw.
Omar Mingo went 13.91 meters in the triple jump to take fifth place. The men's 4x400 relay team of
Cody Chavis,
Bradford Smith,
Jack Zemp and
Joe Harbacevich finished third overall with a school record time of 3:53.28.

Additionally on Sunday,
Shannon McAndrew was 10
th in the women's 5000 meters at 18:35.33 and
Cristian Widenhouse was 18
th in the men's 5000 meters at 15:33.50.
Amber Lust went 1.45 meters in the women's high jump and
Omar Mingo went 1.75 meters in the men's event. Kasey Widmyer went 10.32 in the women's triple jump.

Western Carolina registered 170 points to win the men's title. The Catamounts were followed by runner-up Samford (155 points). On the women's side, Samford scored 208 points to claim the women's title, while the Catamounts registered 151.5 points two claim the runner-up trophy.

The outdoor season for the Terriers will begin on March 17-18 at the 49ers Classic hosted by Charlotte.
