BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Wofford College track and field program had another strong performance at the 2025 Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at held at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium in Birmingham. The Wofford women were third overall and the men were seventh, while five titles were claimed.
Southern Conference titles were won by
Olivia Bagg in the heptathlon,
Sherika Christie in the long jump,
Dani Emmen in the hammer throw,
Ellie Sawicki in the discus, and the men's 4x100 relay team.
The women's team scored 134 points to take third place. The 134 points are tied for the most in school history (2023), and this is the sixth-straight season the Terriers have been in the top four. The men's squad was seventh overall with 56 points.
Sherika Christie was named the Female Most Outstanding Athlete. She competed in seven events and scored in all seven for 35 total points. Overall, fourteen All-Southern Conference honors were achieved. A total of ten All-Freshman honors were awarded to Terriers. Wofford also set four school records.
"We had a lot of good things happen over the past two days," said head coach
Johnny Bomar. "There was a lot of adversity with the weather and schedule changes, but I was impressed at how well they were able to handle it. The field event athletes really stood out and came through for us."
The day began with the completion of the final three events of the heptathlon.
Olivia Bagg claimed the title for the second straight year with 4,795 points. She was first in the long jump and the javelin. She is the fourth different Terrier to win the event in the last six SoCon Championships (Amber Lust in 2019, Megan Dunn in 2021 and Netanya Linares in 2023).
Isabelle DuChemin was fifth at 4,270 points, which included a first place finish in the 200 meters. After the final five events of the decathlon,
Jackson Casey was eighth overall with 5,586 points.
The field events began with the women's shot put, in which
Ellie Sawicki was second at 12.92 meters and
Sherika Christie was sixth at 12.07 meters. In the women's high jump,
Sherika Christie was fifth at 1.61 meters and
Olivia Bagg was eighth at 1.61 meters.
Jake Ross was fifth in the men's high jump at a personal-best 1.87 meters. In the triple jump,
Sherika Christie was second at 12.22 meters to set a new school record.
Ellie Sawicki took first place in the discus at 41.95 meters to become the first Terrier to win the event, while
Sherika Christie was eighth at 36.49 meters. Patrick Green was third in the men's triple jump with a personal-best 14.36 meters.
To begin the track events on Tuesday, the women's 4x100 relay team of
Taylor Jennings-Ward,
JaKayla Campbell,
Isabelle DuChemin, and
Ella Tennant was second in 46.70. The men's team of
Nigel Ransby,
Zion Bennett,
Shane Olander, and
Nevius Fisher took first place in a school-record time of 40.98. It is the first time a Wofford men's relay team has won a title at either the indoor or outdoor championships.
In the 100-meter hurdles, JaKayla Campell was third in 13.98 and
Sherika Christie was fourth at 13.99. For the women in the 400 meters, Taylor-Jennings Ward was fourth at 56.56 and
Monic Green was fifth with a time of 56.74.
Zion Bennett took second place in the 400-meter finals with a school-record time of 47.89. In the finals of the 100 meters,
Ella Tennant was fifth for the women in 12.20 and
Nevius Fisher was fourth for the men in 10.70. In the men's 80 meters,
Liam Jones was sixth with a personal best time of 1:52.94.
Marga Van Der Linde was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:03.52 and
JaKayla Campbell was eighth in the event in 1:06.98. For the men in the 400-meter hurdles,
Grant Witherspoon was third at 53.55.
Taylor Jennings-Ward added an eighth-place finish in the 200 meters for the women and
Nigel Ransby was seventh in the event for the men at 22.26.
To close out the meet, the women's 4x400 relay team of
Monic Green,
Dannielle King,
JaKayla Campbell, and
Taylor Jennings-Ward set a new school record in 3:45.57 to finish second. The men's team of
Nigel Ransby,
Thomas Stamper,
Liam Jones, and
Zion Bennett was fourth in 3:19.94.
Samford won the men's championship fifth-straight season with 217.5 points and the women's championship with 215 points for the sixth-straight season.
