SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford's
Zion Bennett and ETSU's Micailah Cook have been named the men's and women's indoor track athletes of the week, respectively. Additionally, Samford's Bryce Davis and Chattanooga's Halle Carden have been selected as the men's and women's indoor field athletes of the week, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Selections were made by panels of the league's track and field coaches and included all competition from Feb. 4 to Feb. 10.
Bennett, a senior from St. Andrew, Jamaica, competed at the VMI Winter Relays last weekend. In the 400 meters, he took first place with a time of 47.69 to set a new school record in the event. It is the top time in the Southern Conference this season. He was also a member of the 4x400 relay team that finished eighth. This is the first weekly award of his career.
The Terriers will compete at the Bulldog Invite on Friday, Feb. 13, in Birmingham. The Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship will be held in Lexington, Va., on February 27 and 28.
