BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – On Friday, the Wofford College men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed at the Samford Bulldog Invite at the Birmingham Crossplex. Highlights of the meet included wins in the triple jump by
Sherika Christie, the 60 meters by
Nigel Ransby, the 200 and 400 meters by
Zion Bennett, the 800 meters by
Liam Jones, the 3,000 meters by
Ben Beucler, and the women's 4x400 relay.
In the field events,
Ellie Sawicki was sixth in the weight throw at 13.69 meters. Sawicki added a third place in the shot put at 12.64 meters, with
Maggie Frana fifth at 11.93 meters.
Colston Thomas was fourth in the weight throw with a personal best of 14.19 meters. In the pole vault,
Olivia Burroughs was sixth (3.37m) for the women and
Joey Swick was third for the men (4.37m). The women's long jump had three Terriers in the top ten, with
Ava Cooper in second (5.46m),
Olivia Bagg in third (5.43m), and
Andrea Landrum in ninth (5.01m).
Sherika Christie claimed first place in the triple jump at 12.44 meters, while
Andrea Landrum was third at 11.21 meters.
Preston Kut was tenth in the long jump at 5.67 meters, then in the triple jump
William Brimm was third (13.06m) and Kut was fourth (12.76m). In the high jump,
Ava Cooper was fourth (1.56m) and
Olivia Bagg was fifth (1.51m).
The track events for Wofford begin with the finals of the 60 meters.
Ella Tennant was second (7.65) and
Taylor Jennings-Ward was third (7.74).
Nigel Ransby took first place in the men's 60 meters in 6.90. Three Terriers placed in the finals of the women's 60-meter hurdles, with
Isabelle DuChemin third with a personal best of 8.95, followed by
Ayla Pessoa-Rollins in fourth (9.09) and
Irene Pardo in fifth (9.31).
Madeline Smith took tenth place in the mile at 5:20.93. In the 400 meters, Elise Elliot was fifth with a personal best 57.80 and
Sofia LaCorte was seventh with a personal best of 58.72.
The men's 400 was won by
Zion Bennett in 47.69, tying the school record he set last weekend. In the women's 800 meters,
Ava Dennis was second (2:18.36),
Sarah Turner was third (2:18.72) and
Kristen Hallman was fourth (2:19.67), with all three setting personal records.
Liam Jones won the 800 meters in 1:55.55 and
Andrew York was sixth at 2:00.67.
Taylor Jennings-Ward added a seventh place in the 200 meters in 25.18.
Zion Bennett added a first place in the 200 meters in 21.24 to break the school record of 21.42 set in 2024 by
Cameron Dalton. Also in the 200 meters,
Nigel Ransby was eighth (22.14) and
Shane Olander was ninth (22.61) with a personal best time.
Ben Beucler took first place in the men's 3,000 meters in 8:40.75.
In the relays, the women were first and second in the 4x400 relay. The men's 4x400 relay was fourth to close out the meet.
Wofford will compete at the Southern Conference Indoor Championship on Feb. 27 and 28 at VMI.
