CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Wofford College track and field program had a strong performance at the 2026 Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at the Catamount Athletic Complex. The Wofford women were third overall and the men were fifth, while seven titles were claimed.
Southern Conference titles were won by
Patrick Green II in the long jump and triple jump,
Olivia Bagg in the heptathlon,
JaKayla Campbell in the 100-meter hurdles,
Taylor Jennings-Ward in the 400 meters, the women's 4x100 relay, and the women's 4x400 relay. The seven combined titles are tied for the most in school history with the 2024 season.
The women's team scored 137 points to take third place. The 137 points are the most in school history, and this is the seventh-straight season the Terriers have finished in the top four. The men's squad was fifth overall with 64 points, marking the fourth time in school history that they have been fifth or better.
Overall, 19 All-Southern Conference honors were achieved. A total of nine All-Freshman honors were awarded to Terriers. New school records were set by the women's 4x100 relay team, the men's 4x400 relay team, the women's 4x400 relay team,
Liam Jones in the 800 meters, and
Zion Bennett in the 400 meters. Southern Conference meet records were set by
Taylor Jennings-Ward in the women's 400 meters and by the women's 4x400 relay team.
"It was a phenomenal effort by everyone on our team the past two days," said head coach
Johnny Bomar. "We were down a couple of key contributors, but a lot of people stepped up and their training paid off.
Patrick Green II had two wins, while
Taylor Jennings-Ward and
JaKayla Campbell had strong performances. It was a team effort, as we outscored our projected totals for both the men and women. Overall, it was a good meet for us."
The day began with the completion of the final three events of the heptathlon.
Olivia Bagg claimed the title for the third straight year with 4,867 points. She was first in the 100-meter hurdles and high jump. She is the fourth different Terrier to win the event in the last six SoCon Championships (Amber Lust in 2019, Megan Dunn in 2021 and Netanya Linares in 2023).
Isabelle DuChemin was third at 4,482 points, which included a first place finish in the 200 meters.
The field event finals saw
Maggie Frana placing seventh in the discus with a personal best throw of 41.5 meters. In the women's high jump,
Olivia Bagg was second at 1.68 meters and
Ava Cooper was fifth at 1.58 meters.
Patrick Green II won his second title of the meet with a 14.86 meter performance in the triple jump. Green is the second Terrier to win both the long jump and the triple jump in the same year, joining Adrien Borders in 2002.
Preston Kut was eighth in the triple jump at 13.29 meters.
Andrea Landrum added a third place finish in the women's triple jump at 11.84 meters. In the women's shot put,
Maggie Frana was second with a throw of 12.90 meters and
Ellie Sawicki was sixth at 12.59 meters.
To begin the track events on Tuesday, the men's 4x100 relay team of
Nigel Ransby,
Zion Bennett,
Shane Olander, and
Zion Bennett was third in 41.17. The women's 4x100 relay team of
Ella Tennant,
Taylor Jennings-Ward,
Isabelle DuChemin, and
JaKayla Campbell took first place with a school record time of 45.36, winning the event for the sixth-straight year. The women's 100-meter hurdles was won by
JaKayla Campbell in a time of 13.52, while
Olivia Bagg (14.75) was sixth,
Ayla Pessoa-Rollins (14.76) seventh with a personal best time, and
Isabelle DuChemin (14.89) in eighth.
In the men's 400 meters,
Zion Bennett was second in 46.58 to break his previous school.
Thomas Stamper also set a personal best with a 47.94 to place third. For the women in the 400 meters,
Taylor Jennings-Ward took first place with a personal best of 53.02, which broke the SoCon record of 53.27 set in 2024 by Wofford's Jasmine Jefferson. Also in the 400 meters,
Monic Green was third in a personal best of 54.14, and
Sofia LaCorte was seventh in 57.67.
Nigel Ransby added an eighth-place in the 100 meters for the men.
Liam Jones finished third in the men's 800 meters at 1:50.09 to set a new school record. For the women in the 800 meters,
Ava Dennis was fifth in 2:13.77 and
Sarah Turner was sixth in 2:14.31, with both setting personal bests.
Ne'Rya Vassell was sixth in the women's 400-meter hurdles in 1:05.91. The 200 meters saw
Zico Bennett placing fifth for the men in 21.68, while
JaKayla Campbell was third (24.06) and
Taylor Jennings-Ward was fourth (24.19) as both set personal bests in the women's race.
To close out the meet, the men's 4x400 relay team of
Zico Bennett,
Thomas Stamper,
Liam Jones, and
Zion Bennett finished third in a school-record time of 3:12.51. The women's relay team of
Monic Green,
JaKayla Campbell,
Brooke Sayre, and
Taylor Jennings-Ward took first place in 3:37.83, breaking the school record of 3:43.28 and finishing six seconds ahead of Samford. The mark also broke the SoCon meet record of 3:41.68 set by Georgia Southern in 2007.
Samford won the men's championship sixth-straight season with 238.5 points and Western Carolina won the women's championship with 182.5 points.
