SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On a cold and blustery Friday night at Russell C. King Field, the Wofford College baseball team defeated Monmouth 16-4. The Terriers took the lead with three runs in the second inning and scored six runs in the fourth inning to break the game open.

Wofford is 5-9 on the season, while Monmouth is 1-9. The Terriers were led by
Reed Massey with three hits and five RBIs, while freshmen
Andrew Orzel and
Brett Rodriguez added three hits each. Wofford had 17 hits on the day, three of which were home runs, and stole a season-high eight bases. Ryan Crowley led the Hawks with a two-run homer in the second inning.

In the first inning, the Hawks struck out three times and walked once, while the Terriers were retired in order. With two outs in the top of the second, Monmouth had a runner on first after a fielding error. Ryan Crowley then cleared the fence in center field to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead. Wofford had runners on the corner with one out in the bottom of the second. A double steal allowed
Carson Waln to score from third and with two outs an RBI single by
Reed Massey tied the game at 2-2. Massey stole second and scored on a single by
Brett Rodriguez for a 3-2 lead.

The Hawks had two runners on base in the top of the third after a walk and hit by pitch, but a strikeout ended the scoring chance.
Mack Nathanson added a single in the Terriers half of the third and the Hawks went in order to begin the fourth inning.

Andrew Orzel led off the bottom of the fourth with a single and stole second. A bunt single by
Max McDougald had runners on the corners and then a passed ball allowed a run to score. A single by
Brett Rodriguez plated a run for a 5-2 lead and a ground out by
Kody Ruedisili drove in a run. Following a sacrifice bunt from
Alex Malsch that scored a run,
Brett Hash reached on an error and moved to second on a passed ball. A
Mack Nathanson single through the left side pushed the lead to 8-2.
Carson Waln singled and Wofford had runners on the corners when a double steal attempt allowed Nathanson to score for a 9-2 lead at the end of the fourth.

To begin the fifth inning, the Hawks had a single but a double play ended the top half.
Andrew Orzel led off the bottom of the fifth with a single and with one out Red Massey went over the trees in left field and made it an 11-2 game. It was his first home run of the season and second of his career.
Brett Rodriguez walked and a single by
Kody Ruedisili gave the Terriers runners on the corners with one out. A sacrifice bunt by
Alex Malsch added a run for a 12-2 lead after five innings.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Hawks had one runner on base when a RBI double made it 12-3. A sacrifice fly added a run for a 12-4 game in the middle of the sixth. With one out in the Wofford half of the sixth,
Carson Waln hit the scoreboard in right field for a 13-4 score. It was his second home run this season. The Hawks were retired in order in the top of the seventh.

The Terriers had one runner left on base in the bottom of the seventh after a single by
Brett Rodriguez. Monmouth stranded a pair of runners in the top of the eighth inning.
Brett Hash led off the bottom of the eighth with a solo home run to make it a 14-4 lead. It was the fourth home run of the season for Hash and the 13
th of his career.
Dylan May added a pinch hit double and after a
Ty Reginelli walk, a double by
Reed Massey pushed the score to 16-4. In the top of the ninth with one out, the Hawks had three straight singles to load the bases. A line out to first base and a ground out ended the game.

Wofford starting pitcher
Adam Scott (2-2) went six innings with four runs allowed on three hits and he struck out ten batters.
Reece Maniscalco threw two innings and did not allow a run on one hit with two strikeouts. Rashesh Pandya went the ninth inning with three hits allowed.

Ricky Dennis (1-3) started for the Hawks and allowed nine runs on eight hits in 3.2 innings with three strikeouts. Ben Hoffman worked 1.1 innings with three runs allowed on four hits and a strikeout. Regan Dombroski went two innings with one run allowed on two hits and three strikeouts. Chris Hawryluk threw an inning with three runs allowed on three hits, along with two strikeouts.

Wofford is in the midst of a 14-game home stand. The Terriers will host La Salle on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., followed by Monmouth at approximately 5:00 p.m. Due to impending weather, there will not be a Sunday game.
