SPARTANBURG, S.C. – In the opening game of a weekend series, the Wofford College baseball team defeated Yale 3-2 at Russell C. King Field. The Terriers scored once in the second inning and Yale tied the game in the sixth inning. Wofford added a run in both the seventh and eighth innings. The Bulldogs loaded the bases in the ninth, but could only score one run as the Terriers held on for the win.

Wofford is 8-10 on the season, while Yale is 3-8 overall. The Terriers were led by
Carson Waln with two hits, while
Andrew Orzel,
Brett Rodriguez and
Reed Massey had RBIs. Tim DeGraw led the Bulldogs with two hits.

After the Bulldogs were retired in order in the top of the first inning,
McClain Bradley hit a double with one out in the bottom of the first. The Bulldogs had a single in the top of the second and
Carson Waln led off the bottom of the second with a double.
Andrew Orzel followed with a single and back-to-back sacrifice bunt plated a run for a 1-0 lead at the end of the second inning.

Yale started the third with a single, but a fielder's choice and pair of strikeouts ended the top half.
Kody Ruedisili walked to begin the bottom of the third, but was stranded at third to end the frame. The Bulldogs were retired in order in the top of the fourth.
Carson Waln led opened the bottom of the fourth with a single and moved to second on an error. A fly ball moved him to third, but he was stranded after a strikeout and foul out.

In the fifth inning, Yale left one runner on base after a walk.
Brett Rodriguez walked and stole second, but was left on third to end the inning. The Bulldogs had a bunt single to start the sixth inning. A sacrifice bunt advanced the runner and an RBI single by Richard Slenker tied the game at 1-1. Wofford went in order in the bottom of the sixth and the Bulldogs went in order in the top of the seventh.

Max McDougald led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk and an infield single by
Reed Massey gave the Terriers runners on the corners. A sacrifice bunt from
Brett Rodriguez drove in a run for a 2-1 lead, but Wofford left a pair of runners in scoring position to end the inning. The Bulldogs added a single in the top of the eighth. In the bottom of the eighth,
Mack Nathanson walked to lead off and moved to third on a stolen base and fly ball. A ground out by
Andrew Orzel scored Nathanson for a 3-1 lead at the end of the eighth.

The Bulldogs opened the ninth with a walk and hit by pitch. A fielder's choice put runners on the corners with one out. An RBI single by Alex Stiegler made it a 3-2 game and a hit by pitch loaded the bases. A strikeout and close play at first on a ground out ended the contest.

Wofford starter
Adam Scott (3-2) went eight innings and allowed two runs on five hits. He struck out nine batters and walked two in the win.
Jordan Accetta earned his fourth save of the season by striking out one and allowing one hit in the ninth.

Eric Brodkowitz (0-1) started for the Bulldogs and went seven innings with two runs allowed on five hits, along with eight strikeouts. Tyler Sapsford gave up one run in a third of an inning. Griffin Dey recorded the final two outs.

Wofford and Yale will play a doubleheader on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and conclude the series on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
