SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women's tennis team fell to Furman, 6-1, on Wednesday afternoon at Reeves Tennis Center.
 
The loss drops the Terriers to 9-7 on the season and 0-1 in SoCon play.
 
Furman took control of the match early, winning all three doubles matches by a comfortable margin. Blair Martin and Katarina Kozarov won, 6-1, at no. 3 to give the Paladins the first match. Then, Furman's no. 1 doubles team of Ansley Speaks and Aryn Greene also won, 6-1, to clinch the opening point for Furman. The Terriers also dropped the no. 2 doubles match, 6-1.
 
In singles action, the Paladins took the first match to be completed, when Vines defeated Kalli Karas, 6-0, 6-1. Furman clinched the match with consecutive wins In the no. 4 and no. 6 spots. Furman's Martin won 6-0, 6-3 at no. 6 to put the Paladins within one point of clinching the win, before Kozarov's 6-1, 6-3 win at no. 4 gave them the victory.
 
While Furman took the match at no. 5, 6-1, 6-4, and the match at no. 1, 6-2 ,7-5, the Terriers' Cassidy Hicks responded by battling back after dropping the first set to force a third set tiebreaker. Ultimately, Hicks won the grueling third set tiebreaker, 14-12 , to take the match 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (14-12). The win for Hicks improves her singles record to a team best 10-5 this season.
