SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women's tennis team rolled past UNC Asheville, 6-1, on a windy Thursday afternoon at Reeves Tennis Center.
 
The Terriers win improves them to 10-8 on the season. It is the team's second straight season with at least 10 victories. It is the first time the program has recorded at least 10 wins in back to back seasons since 2003 and 2004.
 
"I'm really proud of how we came out and played aggressively in doubles, head coach Krissy Hall said. "I thought we used that momentum from doubles to get off to a good start in singles. I felt we really played consistent tennis from point to point and executed our strategies well."
 
Wofford took control of the match early, as they won the first two doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead into singles play. First, the no. 2 team of Catherine Martin and Lauren Reid took their match, 6-1. Then, Wofford clinched the point on Kalli Karas and Cassidy Hicks's 6-4 win at no. 1.
 
Taylor Carlson and Emily Erickson's match went unfinished with the Terriers leading 5-4 in the set.
 
The Terriers capitalized on their momentum by taking the first three singles matches to finish. Reid continued her solid play, winning her match at no. 4, 6-0, 6-2. Karas also easily dispatched her opponent at no. 3, winning 6-2, 6-0.
 
Needing just one more point to win the match, Hicks took care of UNC Asheville's Hannah Francisco, 7-5, 6-2.
 
With the match already decided for Wofford, Martin took the third set tiebreak to win 6-3, 6-7 (2-7), 1-0 (10-3) over Shipley at no. 1. Carlson also rallied back to win her match after dropping the second set. The senior from Atlanta defeated Emily Sidor 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7) at no. 5.
 
The Bulldogs were able to get on the board with Christin Louw's win at the no. 6 position.
 
Up next, the Terriers will return to SoCon play, as they travel to Samford to take on the Bulldogs this Sunday, April 2 at 12 p.m.
